Aux backup lights

I had a 2018 and wired in some LED aux backup lights mounted under the bumper they worked good, bought this 2025 and tried to put the same ones on it and they didn't work so I was told I could not splice into the wiring harness, that I needed to get a harness that plugs into the trailer harness under the truck. I got one connected up and the lights still did not work until I connected the trailer and then the lights worked, so I connected my tester to the four way and the light work but my truck thinks there is a trailer connected all the time and turns off my park sensor for the rear. What do I need to try?

I too am planning to install auxiliary very bright reverse lights. I will use a relay triggered by the reverse light but powered by a separate 12 volt source. The same 12 volt source will power bed lights.

That sounds interesting, where are you going to power the coil on the relay from?
