Flowmaster says they built these for the hemi trucks with Mds. Anyone running one? I want something deep and mellow with a good sounding idle. I dont want high pitched and raspy. Ive ran about every style muffler in the past and I think I like a chambered muffler for a truck better than a straight through. I just don't want too loud. My old 40 series was loud on my old f100 with a 390. I bet they are even louder on a 6.4 with 3.5 inch pipe.

Few guys are running them... My resonator is still on, it's pretty quiet at idle. Nice tone running on the highway and around town. At higher rpms it does get pretty raspy. Overall I like it another popular option is the magnaflow 18".....

I had the 14 inch magnaflows and an xpipe on my old trans am. I loved them but I do love the flowmaster sound on a truck. Decisions.

Either way I'm cutting out that ugly resonator and dumping over the axel.

Search the exhaust threads here on the HD forum. I know at least one guy on here is running one. I am going to put a couple on mine when I get enough $$$. I had 50 series on my old 04' Dakota & loved how it sounded! Nice deep rumble but not too loud. What sucks is they cost quite a bit more than the 40 series.

I have the stainell steel version 50HD on mine.
I love it.
It's a single offset 3.5 in single opposite offset 3.5 out.
Just replaced factory muffler and added a straight section of pipe.
Cut the resonator off my just cutting the pipe right in front of it leaving the exhaust dumping right after the axle. Left it that way. No tailpipe.
Love the sound. Just right for me.

I ran the Flowmaster American Thunder cat back system which uses the 50 series HD muffler on my old 1500. It had a 4.7 so slightly different than the hemi but still going to have a very similar sound overall. Here's a sound clip I had put together of it if you're interested.

love the 50 series

i have a 50 series on my tradesman

got rid of valved bus sized muffler

this is the muffler that should have come on the factory truck, in my o

i feel its perfect. not too loud. not tinny. no rasp. just a mellow throaty tone.

when you combine the flowmaster with a k/n air intake you will grin like a teenager with their first musclecar. but then its a truck....:roflsquared:

I'm running the 50. Left resonator on. No drone whatsoever in truck, to be truthful its not loud in the least. I have really wanted to take resonator off but a bit worried as to what will sound like then. Meaning it be too loud. Plus I just think in my head its only single exhaust, that's just weird....

That's exactly what I did and I love the sound with resonator gone and pipe just dumped over the axle.

I have the flowmaster cat back on mine which has the SS 50HD and it sounds amazing imo. nice bark on cold start and mellows right out. idle is low and ballsy. heavy on the throttle and she sounds like a 6.4 should, deep, rumbly, perfect. high rpm gets a little rasp but with my side exits you cant really hear it, unless your in between a couple prius's and crank er :)

Do you get drone in the cab with it? I'll be towing about 7000lbs of trailer trailer and the drone would drive me nuts if it has any.

Also did you lose any low end torque after you installed it?

Thanks

Just from what iv seen, almost all the aftermarket exhaust (drop in/weld on types) will slightly reduce low end torque and HP but you get more above 3000rpm's. there isn't many that actually increases low end anything over stock.

I would LOVE to buy one that increases low end.

Yeah - loss of low end is not great especially when you tow. Granted I tow in the Rockies regularly so gaining torque and HP above 3000 rpms is fine as I'll be in that range. Not so great around town though.

I only get slight drone when in MDS, towing I never see MDS so no issue.

low end torque, I didn't dyno before and after, though what I can tell you is it feels more responsive from a stop, pedal feels more responsive. whether that's torque or not, I don't know, but I feel "buttdyno" wise, she has more "get up and go" from a stop. For example, unloaded from a stop, I have to try NOT to break the back tires loose.

after seeing the inside of the stock muffler, I cannot understand how I would be losing torque. they legit choked the exhaust up.

dont know why back pressure helps low end torque but......
