Dang mid grade here is like $2.77 a gallon..lol

That Hemi can sure put a smile on your face if gas mileage is not a concern though. :)

Absolutely. Like I said I had a hemi loaner truck for three days. I certainly got my grins on, except when I looked at the gas mileage, which was 14 mpg (was wintertime and there were some warm ups).

Just happened to have presence of mind while waiting for the missus to come out of the store... this, right here, is why I'm happy with my little 3.6:

Forgive the thread drift gents. Got to tell you. Friend of mine owns a 62 truck fleet delivery business. 62 Ram trucks, 1500-5500. Went with him to pick up "his" new 2018 5500 Laramie diesel. Unbelievable truck. Instead of going back to the fleet yard,,,we took a drive up in the Sierra's. I drove back. Had to run an errand when we got back. My 1500 felt like I was driving a Honda civic.

Isn’t the pentastar consistently one of the top v6 since it’s production began ? I love it. Matched with the 8 speed and pedal commander, It gives me everything I need. I don’t haul btw

You don't hear many guys talk about the PC with the Pentastar but it seems like a good combination to me. It's on my list of mods for sure just have other things to get to first. :)

Never knew they made those 5500 Chassis Cabs in such higher trim levels.

Exactly. Was surprised my self. May have been a special order. I know he waited quite some time.

When I first read your post, I went to the builder website and the 5500 Laraime is there and selectable. Just never have notice one in the wild.

I think $3 was a random number. Mid grade is about the same here for me as well.

I have never forgot the days of tip tip toeing around town in my Yukon denali. 6.0 awd.

Hemi?
Ironically I’m new to the Ram brand and was considering a 2015 1500 sport...but have been wondering if I’d be better off with a Penstar V6, at the same time wondering if I’d get some of the amenities of a sport. Thanks for sharing your experiences

Yep. First one I have ever seen. Most are tradesman. And this area is Ram country.

87 Octane gas (the low-end stuff**) in NW Oregon averages $3.20/gal as I type this.

** No E85 stuff up here that I'm aware of. Anyone else in OR see such a critter at the gas station?

I see what you're saying, but you're comparing new trucks. Mine is used, so I'm guess that at best, I'd be $150-$200 more a month for an '18 provided I didn't get a higher end model. That coupled with the fact that I don't use mid-grade...don't think I'd save that much in gas every month.

That also doesn't take into account the possible increase in insurance for a new truck, and the big increase in taxes every year. Plus I'd lose most of my amenities.

No, I'd love to be able to justify a new truck, but I just can't see it. Besides, they don't make the '18 in yellow.:anitoof:

I have run a few tanks of 87 in the truck and cannot break 19mpg in my 17. I was running 89 “as recommended” and getting 19. I don’t care about mileage that much but if you are trying to squeak out more miles 89 might be the way to go. On a 20gal fill up its $6 more.

Actually I like numbers and money and seeing where my money goes as I get older. So if I average 18mpg on a 20gal full up that’s 360mi. If I average 19mpg that’s 380mi. So if you take the $6 figure above and subtract the current 2.89 price for mid grade so it only costs $3.11 more per fill up with mid grade and you get the better MPG you all seek.
