1996 GTO? Say what?

2011 is a bad year. Like most car brands there are some years you just don’t buy. Especially the first year for a new generation. Good luck to you.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma .. I was a GM guy as well for many years … I took out a new 2014 Silverado but the handling felt different from my other GM trucks … so, I went down the road to the RAM dealership and took out a 1500 crew cab … Loved it so much a bought a Longhorn model … I'm on my second Longhorn now, and will be getting the new model when it's time (about 2 more years) …. the only issues I have had with RAM were software updates, a minor transmission repair and a fuel sensor (all covered under warranty) … When I traded my first Longhorn, a staff member at the dealership called her husband as he was looking for a truck and they bought my trade-in, one day after I picked up my new one …

Yeah it’s always risky in my opinion. The makers of the cars don’t know what kinds of problems the car is going to have because it’s never been used by consumers before. Takes them a couple years to work all the bugs out if there are any.

It did. I’m just speaking in general you don’t want a first year of a generation. I think ram started picking it up after 2012. Don’t quote me
I’m going to blow this one up
2009 hemi crewcab, Rambox
399,225 on the clock
Bought new , drive it everyday
Exhaust bolts replaced 2xs
2009 came with lifetime power train warranty
225,000 fuel pump and water pump
Front end all Original
Transmission Original
Engine , 325,000 the MDS went out , while in there they replaced cam and lifters
I truly believe that in 2009 with new model they went out and got some good vendors?

"super mint 2011 Dodge Ram Laramie crew cab" Apparently you were wrong on your assessment.

Buying a used vehicle, especially a truck and over 7 years old can certainly be a risk.

My 2012 RAM has been flawless, except for the mice chewing on my wire harness on top of the gas tank. :) That cost me 200 bucks.

Also, you owned a GTO? If it was newer than a 1970, then it's not a real GTO.

I never said all of them are bad or was I speaking about ram specifically. I’m just saying in most instances the first year of a new generation or new model is risky because hey don’t know what kind of bugs their vehicle is going to have because here isn’t any type of longevity examples. After a few years they know what kind of bugs their vehicles have and correct them. For instance. 06-08 chargers had a front end rattle problem. They finally had it corrected for 09-10 models. Remain calm.

Trucks are like most things, you look at them from an experience point of view as well as your own perspective as to what is important, or unimportant, to you. I'm on my 5th Ram and have a '19 Big Horn ordered. My last truck was a new '17 Silverado LTZ Z71 and for me, there is little comparison as to which is the better built, better riding and handling, and better laid out truck. I am blind to brand generally speaking and wouldn't hesitate to buy a GM or Ford if I thought it was the better truck for me.

I think your real issue is that the manifold bolt repair didn't go smoothly. Once done and you are up and running, you will enjoy your ram.

This, bet if it went smooth this post would not have been made.

Not to be a ass but when you buy a truck with allmost 100k you haft to know you will be fixing things pretty soon as stuff wears out.

I understand where the OP is coming from. You claim it's his fault for not accepting that its used. I would agree if it was burning oil or the trans failed due to improper maintenence from a previous owner. His point is this failure is due to either a bad design or cheap parts which are a known issue. Ram should recall these & replace the manifolds. I hope the drill jig he's waiting on works and he's a happy camper like huntergreen says.

No you are right the manifold and bolts are crap and should not have been a issue.
But Ram is not the only one with thus problem allthough we can agree they should have done something different years ago.

Without a redesign of the head, I don't think it is possible to go to larger bolts.

Maybe studs would last longer but it is the rusting that really hurts it. Going stainless would stop rust but stainless in aluminum is not a good option and stainless tends to get brittle with heat cycles.

Easiest fix would probably be to shield the manifolds from any road splash and the elements or some way to stop the rusting.

Don't need longer bolts, but they could certainly use harder bolts.
