Hey Guys,

Thinking of getting a Ram tomorrow. One I am looking at is a 2016 Laramie with 96k miles. The price is about 25k. Not sure I want to get into a truck with that type of mileage and wanted your opinions.

Thanks.

No way, paid 39000 for a 2017 with 34miles on it. So it was new and that was only back in April as it was a left over. Keep looking! You can find that price on something with 40-60000 miles

I'd pay 18,000 for it max. At 96000 miles you round that to 100000, and those are the trucks you compare them to. It will more then likely need a cam job in the not too distant future and such so it needs to be the right price with those miles

That is exactly what I did just a year later, sticker was 53 and walked out at 39. Not as good of a deal but still a sweet deal

Thank you all!

Any opinions on what I may be able to negotiate a 2019 big horn down to on NYE?

They are selling like hot cakes, outside of regular incentives, I'm not sure there is much room to negotiate

Do you want a popular truck? Lots of options like a Limited crew cab? Then 15% off MSRP is your minimum deal. MSRP on these trucks is a total joke.

A less popular truck? Quad cab Express? Then 30% off MSRP.

I bought my truck brand new for 42% off MSRP. Last 2017 quad cab Express on their lot, back in April 2018 with a lot full of 2018s and 2019s on the way. They wanted it gone and I was happy to buy it. AutoNation dealer.

All depends where you are and what targeted incentives you qualify for, but I got 6% below MSRP + incentives (roughly $13,500 off ~$48k MSRP - that was around Thanksgiving, when incentives were little better).

First off, go to a site like autonation.com, kbb.com, or cargurus.com, and get the average blue book values for that vehicle. Then search around for other trucks within that price range - you'll be surprised at what you find.

Note that before you start deciding, get real familiar with trim levels. Sometimes it's going to be a bit tricky (for example, the SLT trims are only available for fleet vehicles from model-year 2017 onwards), but that research will help you get a feel for what you're looking at. Also, pay attention to the little things - for example, a truck with a 3.21 gear ratio is going to have way less towing capacity as the exact same truck with a 3.55 or 3.92 gear ratio.

PS: It seems (At least to me) that the 2016 model year was *way* overpriced for some reason... at least that was the case in Oregon.

If you can, buy the truck out of state. You’re in NJ, so try VA, PA or Delaware. NJ, NY and DC will price gouge, lack rebates/incentives and tax you right outta the truck you may want.

Yes, look around outside your local area. A few years ago we were shopping for a used VW Beetle for my daughter who was in college in Boulder, Colorado at the time, but home for the summer. I looked at Seattle, Boise, Salt Lake City, Denver, San Francisco, and LA areas. Denver was super pricey, as was LA. The other areas formed a middle pack, but surprisingly Seattle turned out to have the best prices by several thousand dollars, so we bought locally and my wife & daughter drove it to Boulder.

Hi All,

The feedback is amazing and very appreciated.

I found two 2016 laramies:

47k miles 30k price
37k Miles 33.5k price

I can't go out of state due to festivities.

Thoughts?

Mush better prices. I'd say go with the lower mileage but get the vin's of both trucks and run them in a window sticker finder. Compare the two and see why there is a 3.5k difference in price. To be honest 37k and 47k are almost the same mileage for a modern vehicle.

I was going to try to leverage the 30 vs the 33.5 to bring it down a little

Good idea, if you post the VIN numbers I'll grab you the window stickers and point you in the right direction. What would you be using the truck for on a day to day basis? How frequently would you tow and / or haul? Anything in particular you are looking for?

Thank you.

46k model 1C6RR7NT0GS248926
37k model 1C6RR7NT6GS400286

Maybe towing a pontoon. Otherwise regular bed loads.
