I just bought a 2017 2500 that just came of a lease and still has factory warranty, the 3yr is almost almost done. Being these new vehicles can be pricey to repair I purchased the Mopar 8yr extended warranty, I don't know how they can do this and get away with it and it seems like fraud to me but the warranty doesn't start on the day you purchase the vehicle it goes back to the day it was first put in service when new so they are making you pay for time already gone by. So in my case I bought a 2017 this yr and only really get 6yrs of coverage on a 8 year extended warranty.

All warranties go back to the “in service” date of the vehicle, not from the date of purchase. This is not unique to MOPAR. Hopefully you find value in it long term.

It also likely has a cancellation option that’ll give you a prorated refund for the unused portion of the warranty.

Depending on how new the warranty is it may be fully refundable with a small fee to process the cancellation.

with all that said, you still will come out ahead with the factory warranty coverage. When you bring your truck in the dealer for anything its a large bill you end up with even if they really don't take care of the problem. So I think for what you paying for is 100 percent worth it. Lets say the rear end has to be replaced that is about 2 grand in the dealer give or take a couple of hundred. I think you did the correct thing and correct thing for your wallet in the long run. Well good luck with your new truck :banana-mario:

You bought the same warranty offered to someone buying a new truck, ya you're paying the same price they would have for the warranty but they took the hit on depreciation already. In the end you're ahead, you've spent less out of pocket and WAY better off than if you had bought a 3rd party 6 year warranty that "started now".

Sales/finance departments could've probably made that clearer though.

And this is a Mopar warranty? That’s weird. Maybe it’s because it’s a used truck....

That’s definitely strange because the Mopar MVP lifetime warranty I bought when I bought my truck brand new last year won’t essentially take over until all my factory warranty is up. Are you sure it’s not 6 years? I’m thinking I mighta been one of the last ones to get lifetime warranty because I think they changed it to only 6 or 7 years max with unlimited mileage.

That’s standard, for any of the Mopar warranties I bought over the years.

At least for my MaxCare Lifetime, it says in the contract when coverage begins.

Most of the coverage starts after the factory warranty ends, but some of the "benefits" start immediately - rental car coverage, lodging coverage, roadside assistance, replacement keyfobs, to name a few.

Ah, ok. I thought it was just maybe either Chrysler or my dealer was just being good by letting me drive a little Dart around as they kept my truck and replaced my headliner.

My MaxCare from MOPAR is unlimited time, unlimited mileage.

Too bad they don’t offer it anymore, I might’ve considered a second vehicle from the line just because of that coverage.

Yes, unlimited miles and coverage, like mine.

But again, read the contract and you'll see anything that happens during the factory warranty is covered by the factory warranty. So, engine need replacing within 5/60K, etc.

For those of us with the Lifetime MaxCare its basically a non-issue, but any of the x-yr warranties I could see how its a bit disappointing that "8 years" really only means about 5 years max.

@JML66 when I bought my MaxCare warranty, there was a grace period (30 or 60 days, cant remember which) where you could "return" it for a full refund. Might want to look into that.

Actually making you drive a Dart was punishment for making them replace the headliner under warranty...:D

If you were to cancel an extended warranty 1 year after buying your truck while still under the 3/36, they wouldn't give you a full refund, they charge you for the extra bennies, Rental, lodging, roadside etc even if you never used it.
I found that out in 2008. I bought a new 07 Pacifica in may 2007 and bought an extended warranty through the dealer. Afterwards I found out about the lifetime extended plans which my dealer never mentioned. I call an online dealer that was discounting them. They gave me the lifetime for about the sane price of the few year plan the dealer gave me. BUT they couldn't convert it, instead refunded the original minus about a hundred bucks for extra benefits I had that were never used and then I purchased the new lifetime plan.

Bought mine on a 2015 - honestly could care less which portion of warranty covers a repair - only that I don’t get the brunt of expense and that a dealer technician is doing the work.

Only issues I see are you won't get the best mechanics working on your truck since they don't get paid as much for warranty work as they do for cash customers. And as I have found with my wifes car, quite often it takes 2 days or more for a couple hour job to get done most likely because they put cash customers ahead of warranty work since the shop makes more profit on them.

There is probably some truth to this. But they probably have only a select few techs who do major work. I often ask them to put any work in the hands of a well-experienced tech. (Non-maintenance type stuff)

I have a good relationship with the service writer who has helped me get square on items the warranty wouldn’t necessarily cover (fog light wobble).

In the end I am a persistent enough ******* to keep fighting until the job is done properly.

Im with you completely. But I also understand OPs feeling.

I knew what the 7 or 8 year warranty meant, which is why I paid extra for Lifetime. By the time the 5/60 powertrain is up, I *might* have 40K miles on my truck. Probably not even that much. So, there is still room for the engine and trans to have issues, and covering me out to 7 or 8 years wouldnt help much either. So it was Lifetime or nothing, for me.

Actually, aside from it bein’ too tiny for my big ass to slide in and out of and it stinking like an ashtray even though there was a “no smoking” sticker stuck over the radio, it wasn’t all that bad. Lol.

So why are you angry? Nobody forced you to buy the extended warranty. Are you mad because you signed without reading the contract?
Perhaps you would rather be out many hundreds or thousands of $$$ if something needs repairing as opposed to being "defrauded?"
