Sorry if this has been beat to death on here, trying to get feedback on the ram box whether or not you guys that have them would buy the truck with that option again. Dave Smith Auto in Idaho doesn't stock any pw with the ram box saying they are not a popular option.

I don’t have any first hand experience with them. And while I think they are good idea in theory and useful for some people one of my requirements for my PW was NO Ramboxes. For me it was one less thing to have problems with and let’s me have the full range of options when it comes to bed accessories. Toppers, expedition racks, ect.

I have them. 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. They are nice for semi-secured stowage. Some say you loose bed capacity, but I don't think it really amounts to that much loss. The latching mechanism could be a better design. The lids may warp in really hot sun and may come warped from factory. Mine were and the dealer phucked the replacement up to the point I had to take matters in own hands and get it fixed they're still warped. Does leak when water under pressure is sprayed directly around the lid seal area, but very little gets in. THe lousy latch mechanism makes it impossible to get a good seal. The MOPAR shelving and divider kit fit is spot on or may have to shave material, or at least I had to. It's not cheap, but can find sometimes at more reasonable cost. MOPAR also make gun racks for the box, but I it costs too much. Also makes cargo net kit that go on underside of lids and requires some drilling for the push pins. I don't think that is worth it either. I foolishly bought a kit and after it's all said and done, not much could be put into nets and possibility it spills out into box at some point.

I suspect some are perfect, but most are not. Would I buy another Ram with Ram boxes? I probably would despite my experience with the ones on my truck. I ordered with the boxes anyway when I bought it. The fact it's more lockable storage is it's strong point, despite if someone really wanted in it, it could be defeated easily; the point is deterrence. Good place to stow jacks, shovels, pick mattock, axe, tools, recovery stuff, etc.

Best option ever.
I store all towing, offroading and recovery, jacket and things on the fly.
( Fire arms, fishing rods, etc. )
Completely dust and water proof.

No more storing in box or cab.
Super easy access.
No more crawling or getting the tonneau cover off.
120 volt plug and light.

100km around, I have access to about 20 dealers.
And none had a PW with rambox below 80 000$ and even then, very rare.
I bought mine 4.5 hours away, all by phone. Good experience.
It's not they don't sale, they don't offer 'em ( in my experience anyways )

Some cons:
Can't install a cap or backrack.
A quad with tracks won't fit ( mine comes at 54" and the box has 50 1/2" hishh.

I like the concept I'm glad I don't have them after reading a number of posts on this site. It would be nice to have less stuff in the cab but for now my cheap plastic chest in the bed is fine. Have you considered a high quality tool box, or boxes, instead?

If you know someone that has a rambox with the 6'4" bed, ask to see it in person; i think it will help you decide. Let me say, it's quite cavernous.

I opted for the rambox because it provides better organization of 'stuff' (i.e. recovery gear, jack stands, tools, etc) without having to take away utility from the main compartment. As someone mentioned, too, it provides semi secure storage as an added bonus.

Although cap, and rack options are limited, they are available. I have a frontrunner mid-level rack. That I'll install if i need the added utility beyond what the main bed can hold.

Had them on my 17
Don’t have them on my 18. Spend more than 2k getting the decked drawer system and a soft topper to make up for the loss of ram box.

my only complaint was the fit. They were fine for me until people on this forum brought the fit issue to my attention. Always bothered me after that.

I love my current truck but I do with I had the ram box back. I have more storage with the decked system but in all honesty the ram box was so convenient. Like a hell of a lot more than my current setup

i’m happy with what I have now because I got a ridiculous buy on this truck. Both my 17 and 18 were used. 21k miles and 3k miles. I have planned on waiting until the new body style is released for the HD models before purchasing a new truck. That will have ram box on it for sure. The 5th gen 1500 ram boxes seem to fix the fit issue and have a 12v plug built in.

if I was to make a suggestion on a purchase I would suggest buy a truck with them. You can always say you tried. Or if you buy a white truck you can do a bed swap to one without. Lol I always though of doing this because of the lack of options for racks and caps. They are out there though.

I needed my whole bed available so I could get a Diamond Back cover to haul my atv on and still have the bed for luggage and gear. I add 3 boxes that diamondback made as well for my recovery gear, fishing gear, and tools. Plus it gives me room to mount my onboard air.

I full time in a RV and have a lot of stuff.

Using storage bins is a much more versatile option.

Even if you only have one bin, you can use a bed bar or rope to keep the bin towards the tail gate for easy access.

They also make it easier to load and unload.

I've heard that a standard pallet won't sit flat between the walls of a Rambox. True?

I think they are cool but they would never work for me, I need the bed space. I have a tool box in the back for storage that I can easily take out if need be. I do love the idea though, just think it depends on what you use your truck for if it works for you or not.
If they were big sellers Ram would be making more of them then they do but the regular bed is just more popular. They are in this to make money so they make what sells the most.
