OK, it impressed me a tad more than I expected. Here's my rundown.
Good
1. LOVE the new RAM Box idea.
2. Midgates for the win! This draws me to the Silverado EV too.
3. Suicide rear doors. I miss that in older extended cabs. Really gave the cab a roomy feel on entry and exit. As long as the rear doors can work without opening the front door.
4. Styling is still obviously RAM.
5. The exterior lighting is awesome.
6. The true middle split rear tailgate.
7. A Frunk! The passthrough to frunk is meh, but the frunk overall is nice.
8. The center console with the extending work space is neat.
Bad
1. That bed/cab line, ugly and basically makes the truck lie about it's bed size.
2. No buttons on the dash. I NEED REAL BUTTONS RAM! That's why I bought a 5th gen, buttons. Stop trying to follow Tesla.
3. Very low, but I get that for aero purposes, but still don't like it.
4. 3rd row seating. Really? NOBODY will use that. At least if they are smart. I'd rather have a larger bed. Remove that crooked line, and make the bed what it should be.
5. That awful steering wheel. Blech.
6. No driver gauges/screen behind the wheel, or above the wheel or straight ahead. Hopefully it has a HUD, and a really GOOD HUD.
Meh
1. Frunk passthrough, way too small to be useful.
2. Seats look OK, but nothing exciting. Hopefully they have some flexibility.
3. The roof glass. Pretty... pretty useless.
4. They didn't show if it had a HUD. I love HUDs. Hate that I bought a 2020, and not 2021 5th gen with the HUD.
5. No specs yet. Come on RAM, I know your late to the game but don't push it.
I came from GM trucks to my 5th gen RAM. So glad I did. But the new Silverado EV seems to hit more buttons for me (get it! real buttons
) This new RAM is beautiful to say the least. But seems to me RAM went too far. Way too far in some areas. I know many folks hate the idea of an EV, but I personally love it. I will never not own an ICE vehicle. But hope to have an EV sometime soon, as I've driven a few and the difference is worth it to me. Batteries will get better, and charging will improve. I don't expect ICE to ever go away completely, but do worry it will become super expensive at some point. Especially as technology on the EV front improves, and newer motors and batteries hit the market that take away all the stress of range and charging. I'd expect to see 1000+ mile cars and trucks in the next 5 to 10 years. That and range extending options on trailers to make towing less of a worry. I.E. batteries stored in the trailer that help the truck go farther. Expect a new trailer plug standard for that soon.
I'm excited RAM finally released this. Now, patiently waiting the real truck reveal and road tests.
