almost 400k...truck is in decent shape, looking for a work truck, it has cold AC and seems to be in good mechanical order. tires are decent etc.

truck can be had for $2000, yes thats right

so my question is how many miles can i get out this thing? $2000 seems like a steal

If they are selling that for $2000 something is wrong with it, period.

Im going drive it in the morning. I know a guy at the dealership told me they gave the customer $1500 trade and were going to send it to auction because the tailgate is destroyed and bed is got wear on it. I offered them $2000 and they said come get it. I'm thinking I can't loose here

Body damage is nothing to repair. That bed could be replaced pretty cheap.
At 400k miles a cummins still has life left in it but if they gave $1500 and are selling for $2K there has got to be something else wrong under the hood. Transmission is on its way out, engine is about to die or something.

Good luck.

If that that is the case with the dealer, they're figuring a bird in the hand is better then the two in the bush.
Having a Cummins under the hood, any repairs probably won't be cheap but if your ok with possibly throwing $2K away it's probably worth the risk. It could turn out be a decent work truck, guess you have to roll the dice.

I'd jump on it. You could probably get close to that parting out the engine/transmission/rear end. If it's just a work truck and it doesn't work out, write it off and move on. We got a real good deal on a vehicle once in a similar situation. If the dealer doesn't have to do any cleaning, repairing, paying to transfer the title and can just flip it, they might be OK with just blowing it out. A 25% profit for them ain't so bad.

If the frame is solid then I would jump on it...I would buy it expecting a major repair of some sort though.

What is the new price? I would ask to take it for a couple day test drive. If it has 400,000 miles, they shouldn't care if it has 400,400 miles. You could learn alot in those miles

Good deal! You'll find the one...that one just wasn't it. I sure do hate shady/unethical business practices.

That's a good idea, shop around. Plenty of trucks out there and hopefully you can get a good deal that is honest.
