does 43000 miles seem quick to need front brakes

I have a 2017 ram 1500. I had my oil changed yesterday and was told i need fronts ASAP. I have 43000 on the truck. A friend of mine with a 2015 has 65000 on his just had a state inspection and was told his brakes are fine. I'm not one to stop hard he actually is.

43000 isn't unreasonable. I actually think 'stompers' brakes last longer. My wife is a stomper and hers always last much longer than the average. Think about it this way...pads wear from friction. If you stomp the breaks and stop quicker the rotor has less revolutions against the pads, thus less wear. Just my thoughts

43,000 miles is actually on the high side of what I see from customers on a daily basis. Most RAM 1500's that I get to do front brakes on are usually in the 30,000-35,000 miles and I have done plenty with less miles.

I guess it's reasonable. I'm just used to getting 60K or so out of my car brakes , and of course the car weighs a lot less. Thanks

The rotors on my 15 SLT 4X4 CC didn't last 20 k.They didn't like living in the snowbelt apparently.Brake linings were still like new but never really had good stopping power right from new.My 19 Classic Express seems to be better so far.

I made it to 56,400 (2013 1500) before the brakes required service. Strange thing, the front brakes had life left, the rear brakes were completely worn to the point where the brake pad separated from the backing plate.

^^^ this with the exception of the brake life should be almost double.
I was doing some work where they test brakes pads on dynos all day, the guy I was talking to does more brake jobs in month than a brake shop does all year.
He told me the biggest factor in wearing down brakes is contact time, how hard you apply them doesn't make as big of a difference as people think. He also mentioned too light of braking tends to polish the rotors and pads which will increase the required time and pressure to stop.
I haven't gone less than 70K in any of my work vehicles which are usually +8K lbs and mostly city driving.
