I was getting new tires for my 2012 Ram and got into a conversation on economy. I said, I don't have any. I get about 14 mpg in town and usually drive on roads with few stop signs and traffic. Then when on the hiway, driving 75 mph, get about 16-17 mpg. The guy said he has a 6.7 also and gets 22 mpg all day. I said how. He said he bought an OBD plug and it has been great. Does anyone know if that could be true and if so where can I get one? I bought one last year, but it said it might increase your mpg a bit but it will increase the HP. I have plenty of HP but would like to get a decent MPG.

You just won't see good mpg with a 12. I can get 18-20 MDS on running 60. I have never seen any real MPG increase using a hand held tuner.

I have a tuner, hadn't tuned for MPG but for performance and able to use 87 octane. I get as much as 20 MPG on the highway running 60 mph. The more I go above that my MPG drops. If I run much over 70 MPH constantly I get around 17.5 MPG. That's doing the math by hand. I have a 4.10 rear gear ratio.

I have the 3.92 gears I am sure that doesn't help me either. What is your gear ratio Ervin?

I've got an '09 with the 5.7 5spd and 3.55 gears. I've managed 22mpg on flat sections of I-95 at 65mph, but that's about it. Mostly it's around 20mpg. I average around 15.5 in my day-to-day driving.

My '15 1500 Tradesmen with the 5.7 Hemi, 65RFE 6 speed and 3:55 gears gets around 16-17mpg local driving (IF I can keep my foot from getting heavy :) ) and out on flat open roads will give me between 20-22mpg and it surprises me I can 80mph and still get over 20mpg.

Empty highway mileage is anywhere from 19-21 mpg.
Highway mileage when towing my TT that might go 9,000lbs max I get 14-16 mpg with CC set at 65mph.

And you guys are talking gas vehicles in a diesel thread, not the same.

Hmmm, good point. Didn't see that anywhere in the OP, and didn't notice what section I was in. Disregard.

My bad. Didn't see what thread this was started in. Tapatalk hides that unless I swipe the link line all the way to left which I did not do.

you have several factors that will work against you on MPGs. One will be type of tread/tire you are running. A highway/street tire will get better MPGs than an AT tire.

another will be your type of driving.. heavy foot/light foot, use of cruise control, more city v highway driving, speeds, etc..

finally a tune will help increase your MPGs, but you can't expect 30mpg out of a 3/4 ton rig. A good tune/tuner will run you some good money, but you will also have to do some more work to the truck to help it out.

Research who writes the tunes more so than the tuner itself. Don't expect to run 150+ HP tunes without upgrading your truck and walk away happy.

I previously owned a 2017 Ram 3500 4x4 6.7 diesel and I got 17 mpg city and 20 highway mpg! Standard tires and Synthetic oil. This was running with an empty load.
Then I traded her in for a 2020 Ram 3500 4x4 6.7 HO diesel. She had more bells and whistles and is a beautiful truck but…
Now I get 12.5 city mpg and 16 highway mpg. I only have 3700 miles on my new one, haven’t even changed the oil yet. I have plenty of power but no fuel mileage!
I love my truck but I’m very disappointed every time I go to the fuel pump! Any suggestions?

I get 21-22 MPG around town and have averaged as high as 26 MPG highway. I attribute this to having a manual transmission and running stock size Cooper H/T tires. I keep the RPMs low and she chugs along. On the highway I found that setting the cruise at 65 MPH is the way to go. Anything faster and the economy just drops. And of course this is what the truck tells me, not hand calculated. But on my 26 MPG road trip, I traveled over 800 miles on a single 32 gallon tank.

Mine is all stock automatic with 3.73s and I got 23 mpg on a trip FL to CT and back.
Was almost 24 until I hit the mountains of VA and PA.
Around town it varies 16-18 or so.

I've seen mine indicate 23mpg on the dashboard on long interstate trips. But hand calculation showed it was 21-21.5. Still not bad for a big, heavy pickup. But don't believe what the truck shows for MPG in the information center. It's rarely right on the money.

While we only have like 1k miles on our '21 2500, we're sitting at 16 overall MPG average (evic). Hoping it'll increase as it ages, but being here in Cali I have to leave everything alone :(. Actual mileage is 14 ish lol. Headed to base today and filling up, we'll see how this fill up goes.

You probably will squeeze out another mile or two once it is fully broke in but that is a bigger jump than most are reporting. I have been going back & forth on whether when ordering to go with SO or HO. I don't actually NEED the HO but I thought it would be nice to have & would regain most of it's cost when I trade in. But if I am going to lose more than 1 or 2 mpg I probably will stay with what I need & not want.

Yo! I got Bully Dog for my previous truck to help mpg a bit. Which tuner is best for mpg efficiency nowadays?

My truck usually gets between 16-17 mpg (calculated) at the end of each tank when I am not towing. The computer generally says I am 1-2 mpg higher than my calculations. I have never had a vehicle where my calculation was not consistently less than 1 mpg from the the computer so I NEVER quote my computer numbers because I don't want to mislead people.

Here is a chart I did of my truck about a year ago with my stock turbo. The 14 mpg was towing for about a quester of the tank.
