I'm planning on changing the transmission pan in my Rebel using a dorman pan and zf 8 fluid for a 70k maintenance, just looking for some input on any experiences with dorman pans.
I found a little info here on the forum about some posible leaking but I understand there is a lot of variables when swapping pans
such as proper torq specs and tightening sequence etc.

I've heard and seen that the pan gasket tends to bunch up in one of the corners and causes a pan leak, you're better of getting the OEM pan and filter a better fit.

I switched out the stocker for the Dorman just for the drain bolt. I had zero leak issues as I used gasket maker. Then again, I have the 545rfe. Not sure what trans you have. I ended up buying a Mag-Hy pan which I currently have.

As much as I don't care for Doorman and you hear all the horror stories, they have always done a good job with oil and transmission pans. I would have no problem using a doorman ZF8 pan.

I am staring to do the research of what I will replace when I do my first transmission fluid change. I noticed in a video that Dorman makes a pan that has replaceable filters. Upon looking that up on rockauto I noticed the Autotecnica HD aluminum pan with cooling fins and replaceable filters, https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=12716777&cc=3353659&pt=8546&jsn=820&jsn=820. For $100 and $45 filter changes, this seems like a great deal. Has anyone had any experience with this pan? I really don't like the idea of paying $320 for a PPE pan and I find it wastfull to just thrown the pan away every 50k miles to use an OEM pan. Thanks in advance.

@Shawn Burns That pan seems like an excellent option. I wish they showed the inside of it and if it comes with bolts and a gasket, or has the gasket on it like the plastic pans do.

Before I went with the PPE pan I looked into the Autotecnica pan as it looked the same as the Mopar pan except in aluminum. I went so far as to call Autotecnica out in California but after speaking with two people neither could guarantee the pan would work on a Ram truck. Both people I spoke with stated that many of the ZF pans are the same across various makes and models. They advised I call ZF and ask them so I did. After calling ZF which I believe is in MI or IL they put me in contact with their R&D people in Georgia. After a lengthy conversation with a very helpful engineer he said the same as Autotecnica. Almost all the ZF 8 speed pans are the same across makes and models but advised against using other than OEM because I was still under warranty and he felt it would be an issue if I needed warranty work. He did confirm that ZF is not in agreement with Ram that the fluid is lifetime and needs to be changed at 60k mile intervals. All brands of ZF 8 speed fluid are the same regardless if it’s labeled as Audi, BMW, Mopar, etc. So if RockAuto is advertising that Autotecnica pan as compatible with a Ram I’d jump on it as I’ve read in several BMW forums that Bimmer drivers like them.

That is great info. I think I may jump on it for my upcoming fluid change.
