My time won’t update and compass shows the wrong direction all the time. Going into the menus and there is no data showing for gps location. I read in other related threads that there is a simpler fix than replacing the entire radio unit. Something to do with the gps module, but no clear specifics. I’m out of warranty so no dealer advice please. I want to diy this, anyone know of any software I can use to communicate with the Ram, similar to what the dealer would use?

It’s the Russians, give it a little time and it will clear up.

Try this:

How to Reset Uconnect®: Step-by-Step

Depending on which Uconnect® software version you’re running, the steps for how to reset Uconnect® might vary slightly. For the latest Uconnect® version 8.4, this is how you can perform a soft reset of the system:

  1. Turn your key in the ignition to “Run,” but leave the car in park.
  2. Simultaneously press the volume button and the tuner knob at the same time.
  3. Continue pressing them down for 10 – 20 seconds.
  4. After pressing the buttons for 10 – 20 seconds, the touchscreen display should flash the brand of your vehicle (FIAT, RAM, or Dodge), then proceed to go dark.
  5. A few moments will pass with a dark screen, then the brand name should reappear. At this point, the Uconnect® system is reinitializing and will soon return you to the main Uconnect® screen.
Once you’ve completed these steps, your Uconnect® system should be running seamlessly once more! Keep in mind, these instructions are for a soft reset of Uconnect® version 8.4. They should resolve any issues with Bluetooth® connection, navigation, and small mishaps with the Uconnect® system without requiring you to entirely wipe the system of all the settings you’ve enabled thus far.

I have a ticket open with this intermittent issue as well. The updates I receive is they are working on a software update to push out. No eta.... It's not you :)

I have the exact same problem. I live in Memphis, TN but the gps has me in Texas. Gossett Chrysler Jeep Ram here wants 160.00 just to diagnose the problem. They said replacing the radio is the usual fix. I told them no. Way too expensive. My 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab is long out of warranty so no dealer help. I seriously need my gps working. Any and all help is appreciated. Also, the soft reset did nothing. There has to be a fix for this as too many people on here are having problems.

For 4th Gen 13-18/classic trucks with 8.4 radio, it's most likely the Sharkfin roof antenna (Cellular, SXM, & GPS) or the radio in that order. . . or'maybe' interconnect fakra extension cables between the two (more rare).
