Greetings everyone! This is my second RAM truck (first was a 2014 RAM 1500 Hemi) and I absolutely love my truck BUT I'm having huge problems with my UConnect system. My truck only has 49,107 miles on it. The dealership in Lenoir City, TN and Knoxville, TN have both worked on my truck. I always pointed out the bubble forming on my screen but they would never replace it because it was still working (it was under full warranty). Now my 3 year warranty has expired and the UConnect has gone crazy. It constantly changes channels, switches to heat and a/c and changes the temperature and many other crazy things. It even turns on the heated seats and steering wheel. I try to keep it on radio so it doesn't mess with the climate or other settings but sometimes it just plain goes wild. I cannot listen to any station on the radio without it constantly channel surfing. The worst is when it changes the climate settings. Sometimes I end up driving with the heat on and it's 102 degrees outside. The dealership in Lenoir City now states that I need to replace the UConnect center for $1600. Which seems extremely excessive. I have since moved to Oro Valley, Arizona and I made the entire drive without music. So here I am with a great truck that doesn't have an operational UConnect. I can't listen to the radio nor adjust the temperature in the cab. I saw in the forum that some people get dealerships to replace the UConnect for free or at a reduced price. Does anyone have an idea or recommendation on how to fix this? Will RAM pay for it since it appears to be a common fault?

Did either of the dealerships in TN ever list their inspection of the radio on a receipt? If they did it may be a way to prove your request started while it was still under warranty.

If you work with @RamCares (through the forums) the first step is to have a dealership diagnose and quote the repair (they will need a copy). They can help connect you with uconnect. I had mine replaced free of charge on my 2018 but I was at 30,000 miles. Some others haven't been so lucky but I'd say it's worth checking just to save you money.

Have patience, it's not always a fast process.

I'll have to look through all my paperwork. I'm glad your truck was repaired free of charge. It's a pretty frustrating issue. Thanks for the reply.

I agree, it's a VERY frustrating issue. Hopefully you're able to locate some documentation. It will certainly make it easier for you if you can. Good luck bud.

Usually, the service writer makes note of every customer comment on issues and the dealer/tech responds to the note in servicing. If those notes about delamination were present in the warranty period the dealer should fix it without outside involvement. It's a well known issue and I'm sure they have replaced many themselves.

If not, @RamCares may be able to help.

Really sucks looking all this up, seeing a ton of different outcomes and having a $65000 truck and seeing that Ram isn’t taking care of an OBVIOUS absolutely ridiculous defect if you’re out of warranty. My 18’ Powerwagon is changing climate controls, flashing camera views on the screen at night while driving, calling everyone, changing stations and inputs all after being told by the dealership it was the screen protector coming off and I’d have to peel it off and replace it. It settled down for a few months so I didn’t worry about the bubble, now it’s batsh!t crazy when I’m driving. The camera views popping up with traffic behind me at night is the worst one. Just randomly lights up the inside of the cab from headlights behind me. Seems pretty serious and insanely widespread for Ram not to have a recall.

I agree the Uconnect systems have plenty of flaws but I'm not understanding how physical de-lamination has anything to do with the electronics going crazy?

It causes the digitizer to malfunction causes "ghost touches" on the screen

2018+ cars also have the same issues as the trucks do in regards to the head unit. The car forums have hung the name of "black screen of death" on the radio's in regard to the issue. When they switched manufacture's,the head units went to shiit in my opinion

Yes they did, they switched from Harman to Panasonic in 2017 and they were really bad. Blue screens of death and delamination was common.

If you guys are having issues with the unconnect screen delaminating, call this number

1800-826-6632

That is Uconnects number, explain to them exactly what is going on ... I just called them on Monday about my screen going wacky and changing everything by itself ...yeep my screen has finally crapped out lol ...

Anyways, the lady I spoke to was super nice, she asked me for some info, gave it to her, finally yesterday someone called me and they are going to set up a date for me to take my truck in to have the screen replaced ... simple, fast and easy ....

Whatever you guys do don't be rude with them, give them the saddest version you have of what is happening to your screen lol ....

Honestly, they were super cool, quick and they called back in 2 days .... hopefully everything goes good with the dealership ....

Well my screen has completely stop responding to any touching lol ... it's trying pair devices, switching stations, turn on and off my AC/heater, trying to change settings ...everything you can think of it's doing it on its own lol ..

I did though get a call from my case manager and was told to call the dealership, I have an appointment next Wednesday at 7:30 am for them to diagnose the problem lol ....

The service manager I spoke to claims he's never heard or seen a de laminated screen so already it doesn't sound good lol ...
