I installed a 8.4 UAS radio a few weeks ago and a few other goodies in my truck. I've noticed the screen is off center and some of the buttons on the left side are off the edge of the screen. I have had it apart and back together 20 times looking for ways to 'shift' it to the right with no luck. I've also scoured the forums looking for answers with no luck.

Has anyone encountered this issue? Any way to fix?

With bezel off, what are the widths of the black space on each side? The screens are replaceable, it is possible a new screen was installed on the radio and not exactly centered somehow, but admit I didn't think that was possible. Take some really good pictures close up of each side with bezel off and measurement tool on each side. Maybe someone who has replaced the screen can help. Good luck.

That’s messed up for sure. I’ve never tried this but supposedly you can get into the “engineering menu” of the radio by turning the ignition on or starting the vehicle then hold the driver side temp up and down buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. Maybe in that menu there is a reset or an adjustment. I would think there is a service menu that radio repair shops can access to be able to adjust the X and Y axis of the screen like a TV or computer monitor.

Do you have a picture of the whole radio outside of the dash (not installed)? A picture with the bezel off might help too.

Also, before taking anything apart give the driver's side of the screen bezel a good push to make sure it's fully clipped in/seated if you haven't already

Thank you all for the replies!

@tron67j, I replaced the screen when I got the radio with this one -> https://www.ebay.com/itm/375226428291. I just realized its for a UAQ instead of a UAS, not sure if that matters? The screen itself is easy to install and cannot be slid one way or another, its tight.

@Atcer2018, I tried the defrost, temp up & down menu, I didn't see any options to adjust :(

@SitKneelBend, See the pictures attached. The bezel and coverings are kind of fool proof, I didn't see anything out of alignment.

I think my next step might be to try a UAS specific screen. Thanks again for the input guys, it at least confirms I'm not crazy :)

Looking at the left and right side photos it appears that the icons are not centered on the screen itself. I don't know what the difference is between a UAQ and a UAS screen, but perhaps there is some difference. The best I could say is that the screen you have is either not the right one or is defective. Try getting a replacement screen and put that on and see what happens. Regarding trying to adjust temperature and things on your screen, my setup is a little more basic, when I turn my heat adjustment knob one way or the other the temperature icon on the screen will show up and the pointer will move more towards red or blue. But I can't actually adjust my temperature from the screen, which is okay. I really didn't care about that. When I did my 8.4 upgrade it was solely to be able to use my Android auto for the maps on the screen. I just wanted the larger image, I didn't care about all the functionalities. So it may be that your system is set up the same way where you can't adjust from the screen, you have to use your knobs.

Great pictures, it appears to be exactly as you described it. This is either a manufacturing defect (I think unlikely) or a strange resolution output being sent to the screen. Have you tried flashing the firmware? Even if you are on the latest you can rollback anywhere between 40.1 and 28.3 (go no further though) UAQ and UAS screens are the same part numbers so no issues there.

For reference, here is how the screen should be centered...

Thank you for the advice, I think I'll start with a new screen and see if there is any improvement.

I have updated to 22.6 (I thought this was the latest firmware for UAS radios?) Where can I find the 40.1 firmware update?

Edit: Something I have noticed, some screens are advertised as 1024x768 and others are 800x480. I wonder if the one I purchased was the latter?

I applied the 28.3 update followed by the 40.1 updates provided by @SitKneelBend, while the radio is updated and working fine, the screen issue persists.

I ordered a new one from Amazon for delivery tomorrow. We'll see if it makes any difference.

Thanks again guys for all the help, this is a great forum!

Unfortunately the new screen did not resolve the issue. The one I replaced was a LA084X01(SL)(03) and the new one was a LA084X01(SL)(02).

I am slowly resigning to the fact its a radio defect. It's probably been a problem from the time I purchased it a few month ago, I unfortunately haven't had time until now to get it installed. :(

This is definitely a first. I wonder if there is an AlfaOBD setting to change screen size? I know I've seen some but was never sure what they did.

The 2018 8.4 I installed in my 2015 a couple months ago has the same issue, display is off center towards the drivers side and also kicked a little lower than it should be. Doesn’t impact my access to any of the controls but it is annoying to look at.

Thanks for the suggestion, I went through all the radio options this morning and unfortunately didn't see an option for screen size/adjustment :(

@Gwerner74, it's nice to know I'm not alone, but I hate your dealing with the issue as well.

I've decided to change it all out with the Alpine Halo9 iLX-F509. I was also considering the F511 but I think the 11" screen would be overbearing. I'll be listing a bunch of parts soon that I've swapped out since I purchased the truck. I'll throw the UAS radio on the top of the pile. It works perfect, its just left justified....

Here are the AlfaOBD settings I was referring to...I'm wondering if setting it correctly and or changing it to something incorrect then changing it back will set the framing properly. It looks like the screen thinks it's smaller than it is in the pictures.

@SitKneelBend Thanks for the post. I was looking at AlfaOBD offline and didn't see that setting... Ooops.

I updated the setting to the 8.4 and I didn't see any immediate difference. It was initially set to Absent. We'll see if it changes in the next few start cycles. Either way, I think I've sold myself on the Alpine 509 with the dashcam, driving assist package.

Did you try the engineering menu for screen adjustments?? Seek Up, Seek Dn, menu all at same time with ignition in run.

May or may not work on yours

When you say seek up & down, do you mean on the touchscreen? (which page? AM/FM, Sirius?)

Also, which menu button? (On the touchscreen or a button below the radio?)

If you are by chance referring to the temp up, down and front defrost... that brings up the dealer menu and doesn't have the engineering buttons.
