Looking for some insight into these advertised OBD2 plug in tuning chips. They claim it won't void warranty and provides +60%hp and 4-6mpg increases. Anyone have any experience with these? Are they legal in California?

There is no way a tune is going to add 60% HP to a naturally aspirated engine - that is Forced Air Induction territory. Maybe 6%, which is not detectable without a dyno. And if a tune could increase mileage by 4-6mpg you can be very sure that the mfg would have already done it, as the MPG war is even bigger than the HP war (among the general populace).

Planning to put a lift on the truck as well, but unsure of which products out there provide the best ride. It will be off road at certain times of the year, but need a good city/highway ride as well...any suggestions on brands? Looking at a 4" lift at currently. This is for a 1500 4X4 Laramie

If you're talking about something similar to this, avoid them and just save your money...

bds 4” and 6” are the same brackets so I would just go 6” and leave out the preload spacer. That would set you at 5” front and 3” rear lift if you reuse your front struts. Otherwise I would suggest some fox shocks which they offer as well. Or get ahold of @Nick@GotExhaust since he’s a vendor. He offers zone and can offer you fox products as well. Zone is the cheaper version of bds by the way.

Since you are in cali no tuning device can be legally sold there so not much options there.

An ICON coil over kit will out perform the BDS kits and most other lift kits. Message me with what you want to do and what type of off roading and speeds and we can spec you out some options that will fit your needs and budget!

Unfortunately ride characteristics are very biased. I have a full custom valved fox setup on my truck that I really like but it’s definitely firmer than stock but feels like a nicer ride in my opinion because being firmer makes it feel way more controlled but it isn’t so firm that I feel like I’m driving a tank. It absorbs bumps a lot better than stock as well instead of being bouncy. I’ve rode in a truck with icon and it was firmer than stock as well but you are only going up to 2.5” front lift with icon. Icon is good but falls back on that by person bias. My fox are also set to 2.5” lift. I am not running a lift kit on my truck.
