Over the summer I am gonna start adding mods and this is probably one of the first things ill do. Anyone have any suggestions on which is better for daily driving?

Long tubes, shorties are a waste of time. It's a wifes tail that shorties generate torque, they don't,they're geared more for higher rpm power, long tubes are what you want to generate bottem end torque off idle.
Spend a few minutes reading this whole article, then you won't even consider shorties

Shorties are a complete waste, from a power standpoint. The only reason to do shorties is if you're fixing the manifold leak and don't want to go back to stock manifolds but keep the rest of your stock exhaust. I can't say on a Ram since I haven't done them but on 99% of other vehicles, all shorty headers accomplish is making spark plug changes harder. Longtubes make better torque and power, but they do require the y-pipe to be changed as well.

If you're going to do it, do it right and get longtubes.

**Edit** I just realized what I said, plugs aren't in the traditional place on Hemi's :doh2:

Shorties are good if you want to add a little power while getting rid of the problematic stock manifolds. If you are looking to get more power, long tubes are a great option. Either one will work just fine for daily driving duties.

Message me if you would like a quote on headers or any other mods. We offer most brands and not just exhausts

I installed a set of Dynatech long tubes on my 2003. I didn't notice any difference in low end power but the truck did seem to rev a little better above 3K RPM. I towed quite a bit with that truck before and after the header install and did NOT have a "wow, what a difference!" like some people notice. I can't say I thought the performance gains (if any) were worth the expense. The Dynatechs were built really well though and installed fairly easily.

$300 shorties to advoid manifold leaks and get a smidge more power is a decent deal. I would not pay $1000 for shorties and you can keep your truck stock CAT/Emission wise if your state is a POS. If money isn't an issue I would go long tubes if you trying to get the most power per dollar... remember long tubes means relocated/removed CATs and you would likely fail a visual inspection but it is possible to pass the OBD2 test with 02 foulers. Also long tubes should be accompanied with a tune which depending on the year/model of your truck can be $1k+. Just food for thought... $300 ish or $2k+ for headers.

I put a set of Pacesetter ceramic coated long tubes on my '04 1500 over 10 years ago. Shorties weren't even a consideration. I've been searching for a replacement set, but can't seem to find a set of long tubes in ceramic coat. Plain black paint everywhere I look though.

I recently did long tubes and catted midpipes. I can confidently state without any hesitation, holy hell does it make a difference. Night and day acceleration difference. My state is a visual inspection and I have friends. Custom tuning should be done regardless.
Longtubes, 6.4 intake and custom tune equals:

Hope it’s ok if I ask a question on this thread, if not I’ll delete. I plan on headers here soon, manifold is leaking. If I do long tubes, do I have to do a tune? I’ve read a ton of conflicting information.

To get the most out of long tubes you should tune the truck. Plenty of people have ran their trucks without a tune after doing long tubes but it is recommended to get a tune with them as the computer isnt calibrated for that exhaust flow. thats where a tune comes in

Ok, thanks Nick. So can I just do a canned diablo type tune or do I need a custom? Not looking for a to more power, just no exhaust leak amd maybe a little umph.

Canned tune cant help all that much with longtubes. You flow a tremendous amount of air. Longtubes are also much louder. Shorties wouldn't need a tune.

If you not really looking for a lot more power or racing and adding tune. Then go with cheaper option, shorties.
No point in wasting more money if you don't want or need it.

Really would need a custom tune. Canned tunes do not account for long tubes. If you arent worried about HP just do some quality shorties like the ones from AFE. They do flow better than stock so you can expect a small increase in power while not having to worry about warped manifolds ever again!

Hope I’m not hijacking this thread, if so I can make a new one. I don’t need the added power of a long tubes/the added price isn’t practical. I have a 2009 1500 with 5.7 with broken manifold bolts. I just started looking but I saw these on summit real cheap, anyone know if there good or can tell me anything about them? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...zecXHw6NtW7P7FUkfTIvwtCUWut_z9DZJCvI#overview

Even with the 89 canned tune my truck woke up after LT headers. The custom tune makes it work even better. If you don’t care about performance, go back factory with better bolts. No tune needed and no exhaust mods required. Even with shorties a tune is a no brainer.
