I have noticed on several occasions when shutting off my truck it will go from run to accessory when I press the power button. I have been trying to pay close attention to understand if something triggers this. Pressing power shuts off the engine but does not move the ignition to off. Pressing a second time moves it back to run, and then a third time to off. Anyone know what conditions cause it to not go from run to off after shifting yo park and pressing power? I suspect this is the root cause of dead batteries in the morning. It’s easy to miss that it went to accessory instead of off.

You definitely describe what happened to me few times when I just received the truck and not being used to that round knob for shifting. I shifted few times just to N not rotating far enough to P and shutting off engine and that would happen.

I'm sure there some kind of mechanism in transmission that send signal to maybe computer to let truck know it's in park.

I don't know how old is your truck but I would definitely take it to dealer they might know right away or at least start some kind of paper trail. My friend had similar problems this year on his 2019 but he couldn't even get it to turn off after hitting start/stop few times. Everytime he had to unplug battery to shut off truck completely. When he took it to dealer they diagnosed it as weak battery. No problems since.

Doesn’t help, but another reason I choose the classic, came with a key! Just wish they had a column shifter in these trucks!

Sounds like the issue you are facing is outlined by this service bulletin for my 2017.

Not exactly, it starts every time normally and the engine shuts off every time, it just stays in accessory, not run. It’s very close, and mine is ‘22, bulletin says 16-18. Thanks for the help!
