My UConnect 5 system started acting weird today.

First it didn't shut off when the truck was off and the door opened. I had to physically shut off the radio. That happened several times.

The system froze - high pitched squeal. Holding down the power button reset the system.

Everything worked correctly the next time I turned the truck off. However the system froze soon after starting the truck and it is once again not shutting off when the tuck is off and the door opened.

Mine did the exact same thing the other day. Everything you described. Now everything is working fine. I don't know what happened or what fixed it so I'm going to assume it'll happen again.

Do you have anything plugged into the USB or outlet? I have a dash cam plugged into one USB and my radar detector plugged into my 110v with a power brick.

So I use Android Auto with my UConnect... While driving today, a friend sent me a Messenger video chat request. When I got home, UConnect wouldn't shut off. I was about to pull the battery cable when I got a call on my cell and because it was still connected to UConnect, and UConnect wouldn't shut off, I answered it in the truck (no key in ignition). As soon as I hung up from that call, UConnect shut down. Seems like something in it's brain got hung up on the earlier video chat request and it wouldn't shut off because it THOUGHT it was still in a call. Once another call occurred and a proper hang-up happened... It powered down... The moral of the story is - If your UConnect isn't powering down, have someone call your connected phone and then hang up... ;-)

With all the problems with UC-5 I am so glad I have UC-4 and no problems. UC-5 is not ready for prime time and they need to hire some REAL TECH PEOPLE and use quality hardware in my opinion.

last week mine started shutting off when I shut the engine off. No waiting for the door to open to power down. It’s not really a problem, just different.

The settings are in your Uconnect. I have everything - interior lights, exterior lights, radio, etc. - set to shut off the second I turn off the ignition. I don't need my dome light staying on for 20 seconds after I exit, or anything else.

A year or so ago, I'd have agreed with you. U5 had a lot of teething issues. And there were HW issues too. They had to replace the U5 system in the wife's 21 Pacifica. But with the latest SW upgrades, there seems to be much less complaints/traffic in the forums about U5. The U5 12" in my 22 2500 has been solid so far. And I prefer it to the U4 8.4" I had in my 18 2500.

It’s always a good thing when someone is happy with their system. I like the look of UC-5 but for now I’ll keep my UC-4/12 inch screen and 19 Laramie Longhorn. Everything is humming along perfectly. Love my first truck!
