I keep getting a CEL and a “very small leak” evap code (I don’t remember the exact number code). I have replaced everything that is normally the culprit of this code, and even had the thing smoke tested, but cant keep the code from going away.

I had a thought recently and wanted to bounce it off you guys. I have a flatbed with the filler relocated farther forward and upward from the factory location. I am using the factory filler neck and cap, btu had to extend the hose conneting the tank to the neck by about 24”. Its not a super soft hose, but I thought about it the other day, how the hose going from my filler neck to the tank might be compressing and causing a false “leak” situation during a leak test? Not sure how much pressure the system creates, but I’m racking my brain trying to figure out why the code keeps coming back.

Thoughts?

I think you're definitely onto something. All the sensors in these trucks are so finicky that it doesn't take much to set them off. Did you just start getting the CEL after relocating the filler? If you did the smoke test and it was inconclusive I wouldn't worry about it but I know seeing the CEL is kind of a PITA.

Have you replaced the leak detection pump? I went crazy on my old 2011 was the issue the whole time.

Yes, once. Replaced the pump near the charcoal canister, and the valve on the engine. Bought another set to see if that helps. Not sure why they would fail twice, but Im tired of looking at that stupid light.

Had a shop do the smoke test and they noticed a very faint whiff of smoke from the charcoal cannister. They replaced the canister, but the light keeps coming back.

I the problem started after putting the new bed on and relocating the filler, but I really dont know how long after. Starting to think its either that, or the length of hose holds enough fuel to overfill the tank after it clocks off and is causing something to screw up. I always try to stop pumping when it clicks, and not top off.

I know the CEL isnt a big problem, but Im tired of people making comments when they get in the truck.

Finally got around to replacing the flex hose with some stainless tubing. As much as I hate to jinx myself for posting this, but its been over 2 weeks without a CEL. Fingers crossed that its fixed.
