I want to be 100% sure that I have the right oil for my transfer case. I have a 2013 Ram 1500 Sport with the 8 speed transmission. I'm attaching a picture of my actual transfer case. I bought 2 quarts of the Mopar 68089195AA oil. I'm fairly certain that it's right but I want to be certain before I do the fluid change this weekend.

Thank you

Yes that's the right stuff. But you could take it back and run a high quality transmission fluid in it. The mopar stuff isn't absolutely necessary until 2016 when they changed the clutches in the transfercase. The oil You have listed has the required anti friction addatives. It will work for 2013+ trucks Aswell though.

Since I already bought the stuff I'll just use it this time. They were almost $40/quart! Luckily they accidentally sent me 4 quarts instead of the 2 I ordered for some reason. I think I read a lot of mixed reviews about when the changed the clutches and that was why I played it safe and ordered this Mopar oil on eBay.

Thank you!

Ah that makes sense. Good deal too!! Amsoil or transmax are good in these t cases upto 2016. You got two oil changes in there for you're good for a long time now. :D

I'm tempted to sell the extra 2 to make this change free but I want to make sure I don't do something stupid like spill a quart in my driveway first.

And don't overtighten the plug. When I did mine last summer I was surprised how little effort it took to remove it.

I just put Valvoline MaxLife in mine. No issues. I have the 44-45 though, so no clutches to worry about. If you have the 44-44, you have a “4wd Auto” button and need the special friction modifiers.

I actually did overtighten the drain plug thinking I could guestimate 15 ft pounds and the head of the plug started twisting. Luckily I was going really slow and didn't do much damage. I removed the drain plug and busted out the torque wrench. I probably only had it at about 20 ft pounds so they are very easy to mess up! Next time I do a change I'll be replacing both drain and fill plugs

I ended up using Ravenol products for my two axles and transfer case. Cost was les than the dealer by a fair margin and it meets all the Ram specs.

I used the stuff that came in a big caprisun type bag for front and rear differential. I used 75w90 instead of the recommended 75w85 but I saved a lot of money on those and I haven't heard anything negative about using it. I used the Mopar stuff in my transfer case because it seemed more important to be 100% right based on my research. Apparently it's only that important starting in 2016.

Well I've got a good one too throw into the mix of things.
Ive Been looking for bw 44-44 because that's what my Manuel says to use on our 2020 ram 3500 hohd. So after doing all my online research I found the part number ( 68089195aa) for the mopar , bw44-44 so I type that in and find advertisers showing pictures of 5 different oils with that same item #. One for
44-44, another for 40-44, another for 40-40, another for 40-45 40-46 40-47 & pre 2016 40-44, so which one am I supposed to use, wtfo? So im like screw it ill call the dealership because there price can't really be any worse then the online prices of $50-$68 per quart. The parts guy says ok let me look up your vin, then he says that you have a 44-46 tc so you'll use the
44-44 & 44-45 oil ( which I've not seen advertised yet) which we have on hand. I said wait a minute because my owners Manuel says to use 44-44 but your telling me I've got a 44-46 tc that's calling for 44-44 & 44-45 oil only and he says not to confuse the 44-46 tc with the needing the same fluid type, and i ask how does he explain my owners Manuel calling for 44-44 which he doesn't have any answer for. Plus he won't give me the part number for this mystery 44-44 & 44-45 only oil, damn stealerships . I'm even more lost know then when i started off, I wanted to use a mopar only fluid on this first service while it's still under warranty and then ill probably switch to all ravenol at the 60k mark once it's out of warranty.

They're basically the same t cases except the 46 is basically just bigger.

Nice pics.
What I can't make any sense of is that if its in fact a model
Bw 44-46 tc then why does the owners Manuel call for
Bw 44-44 oil? Any ideas or proof on that one because I just want to be more sure in getting the right stuff and not just what a parts tech told me.

I get what youre saying. Amsoil reccomends atf. And there is no way on God's green earth you'd have a 44-44 behind a cummins in a 3500 it'd never last with that torque.

The mopar Is for the 45-46-47 cases.
My guess is it's all the same because why spend lots of money on a bunch of different fluids when you can use specialty trans fluid and sell it as oem for $50 a qt lol
Been running atf in my 44 for years and Havnt even had a hiccup. $35 for a gallon of good atf and you're good for a couple oil changes. Seeing as the 46 doesn't have any clutches there's no real worry on burning it up, just need enough to keep the planetary and the upper bearings lubed. I'd trust amsoil after all it's their business haha.
