I have used some of these before but not from that seller. So far I would say my success rate is about 80% with these aftermarket units. I've had a few that I have had to install some O2 simulators or make my own with spark plug non-foulers from the local parts store. I have only had one where I had to use HP Tuners to modify the downstream O2 sensors to keep the PCM from setting P0420/P0430 DTC's.

The ones I have used actually worked quite well and the welds were pretty good too. The one modification I did make to each one was by welding in a V-Band clamp at the slip-fit connection so that it would still be easy to remove one side at a time and to prevent any leaks in the future.

Seems like an excellent idea, the stock Y pipe is terribly restrictive

My only concern would be the actual cats, it wouldn't surprise me if they ended up throwing a "catalytic converter inefficiency" code

And there are ways around that as well

I agree with Fast's idea of the V band clamp, but if that's not feasable,a torque tight clamp is a better option then the U clamp it looks like it comes with.

Yeah, the V-Band is not always an option for some people but in my opinion it is the best for this situation. Like @Wild one stated the Torc-Tite exhaust clamp is a good second option that will provide you with good sealing power and they are budget-friendly too.

That’s what I am wanting to do. I can weld and refab the stock on to flow better, but figured for a price like that why not just unbolt old and bolt in the new and go. Figure I’ll try em out if it throws codes well like you stated couple different ways around that issue.

Just buy Long tubes , they come with all that ;)
Definitely looked into doing such mods to the truck but It performs well enough for my needs. I am replacing stock leaky logs with shorties though and wanted to address the stock why pipe restriction. If it gives a little more power awesome if not and just helps it breath a little better and gives it a little more life and no leaks that’s the main reason plus cleans up the old rusty looking parts on it now haha.

Check your states/county’s emissions rules, last year I had to replace my cats to pass inspection because there wasn’t stamps on them, manafactuer & date when built.

I think i would have copied the stamp numbers off my original cats, and stamped the same numbers into the cats, lol

Just be careful with low cost cats. I have seen cheap cats come apart and plug up the exhaust system. I have seen it happen in supercharged vehicles and near stock power level, bolt on mod vehicles. Not saying not to do it but if you do just keep an ear out for any rattling coming from the cats or odd exhaust noise.

Said no gearhead ever. :birgits_tiredcoffee
Just thought I would mention it, I definitely wasn’t worried about it, passed safety/emissions the first time, same shop failed it second time.
The mechanic said he let slide the first time because he liked my truck, but couldn’t do it again.
Nick got me the cats I needed, called his warehouse on west coast to make sure they shipped it same day.
Local exhaust shop welded them in & adjusted the y-pipe, 2k parts & labor.
I looked for work arounds & more lenient shops, but in end I’m glad I went this route & can get it inspected anywhere.
Wish you were my neighbor or I had your fabrication skills, definitely would have found a cheaper fix.
