2010 ram 4.7 knock ***video added***

Looking from the bottom up the rear cylinder on the drivers side shows wear on the cylinder wall. I originally thought I may have a wrist pin failure because all the rod bearings were good and the oil pressure showed good. With the piston at bdc I have excessive piston to cylinder clearance...

Yes I replaced all 16 lifters at the beginning of all this. I did go back and remove the passenger side lifters one by one, starting the engine minus one lifter. Noise never went away or changed. I didn’t do that with the drivers side however, mostly because I was convinced I had a bad rod...

Another 4.7 Engine Tick - Anything else to try before engine rebuild?

Did you ever determine what the problem was? I have a 2010 4.7 that sounds identical to your problem. I mean verbatim. I was sure I was going to find rod bearing issues but when I inspected them they were all perfect. I haven’t inspected the timing components , it just sounds too loud and...

Another update: I pulled the oil pan, windage tray, and each connecting rod bearing cap. All rods felt tight but I wanted to look at the bearings. All bearings look identical and visually look good. No scoring or grooves, all 8 look good as well as the respective crankshaft journals. I...

Also, while driving the truck the noise is loudest under load. When you’re coasting the knocking is barely audible. I’m going to have black stone do an oil analysis, just to confirm my gut. I’m leaning towards this motor needing a rebuild/replacement.

2010 ram 4.7 knock ***video added***

Just to give a small update. I had some time to look over the truck again. I removed the valve covers then removed the rockers one at a time, starting it with one removed. The noise never went away. The timing chains are tight and the tensioner and guides look to be in good shape looking...

Is there an easy way to check these or does it require complete disassembly of the front timing cover?

I’ll update after I remove each individual rocker as suggested and see if the noise can be isolated.

I’m going to try to get a good video tomorrow. It’s been so windy the last few days here that the audio is really poor.

They are really not lifters, although most people refer to them as such. The 4.7 is a sohc design, so they are really just hydraulic lash adjusters. I replaced all with melling brand lifters that were identical to the factory parts. In order to replace all the lifters I did turn the engine over...

Hot or cold, this truck makes the same clicking/knocking noise. It’s there from startup and continues even as the engine is at operating temp. The noise came on suddenly also. It’s easily audible outside the cab, or with the windows down. My thinking is because it’s at 1/2 engine rpm, it’s...

Guys, New member here searching for some help with my sons truck. 2010 ram 1500 4.7 auto 4x4. Truck just rolled 150k miles. Mostly used as a daily driver to and from work. A couple of weeks ago while pulling a small camper for a couple hours on the highway the truck started to make a loud...
