Time to Put a Lot of Money in 5.7 Hemi (cam & lifters)

Yes, a tick during most start ups after the truck has sat a while. Seems to go away after it warms up. I had the exhaust manifold tick repaired on one side, having trouble discerning if it's the same tick or not. Also had a compression test that showed 50 psi for one cylinder... makes me think...

Time to Put a Lot of Money in 5.7 Hemi (cam & lifters)

Kalbo - I've got the same year and mileage. Truck just threw a misfire code, local mechanic said bad compression, second opinion said new engine or new truck (was worried the cam and head job might lead to new troubles). Long story short, dealership says my warranty is out (i guess it's the...

Another lifter failure, not where I expected.

The more I think about it, the harder it is to drop $10k in a truck that i can trade in for $10k today. If I were to do the swap, it might add $3-5k in value, and something about losing 70% of my investment is not sitting well. We're not in a great position to buy a new (used) truck, but I've...

Another lifter failure, not where I expected.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Looking at the two routes I would take now I can: 1. Upgrade the cam, new lifters, tuner with MDS delete and head work for about $5-6k 2. Swap the engine, right now looking like $7-8k (MMX or PowerTrain 5.7 reman)

Another lifter failure, not where I expected.

I haven't been able to find any threads on it, but have there been many "success stories" of folks just replacing lifters and swapping cams? Doesn't seem like many do any head work?

Another lifter failure, not where I expected.

thanks for all the replies. I agree that if I go in there, all the lifters need to go. As for the heads, mechanic said he was sending them to the machine shop... nothing more about why. Called another shop referred to me by a Dodge Master Tech... "Do you like your truck?" "Yeah?" "Best bet is...

Another lifter failure, not where I expected.

2012 Ram 1500, Vararam Intake, Magnaflow exhaust, unknown tuner (previous owner). I've been nervously waiting for the day that the lifter failure would come, but finding some solace in the fact that it seemed more prevalent in 2011's. Add that with an intermittent CEL over the last year or so...

1500 stock flash v. tuner question

I have a '12 Ram 1500 5.7 with about 75,000 miles. Vararam intake, magnaflow exhaust, levelling kit, and an aftermarket tune that came with the truck when I bought it used (confirmed by dealer during service). For the last few months it has been acting up, for lack of a better term. The engine...

    Coil Pack or Lifter Failure??

I've been toying with it a bit more, which has been nerve wracking, but it seems the "stutter" only occurs right at the 3000 RPM mark. It's been suggested that this is an MDS system failure, caused by a bug in my tune. I don't know who tuned it, so I guess it's possible. I'm not ruling out the...

    Coil Pack or Lifter Failure??

2012 Ram 1500, 66k, 5.7, vararam/magnaflow catback/tuned. Hey, all. I appreciate all the info on these forums, and have been having trouble finding more info about some issues with the Ram. Normal daily driving doesn't come with any issues, but when I "get on it" with some above-average...
