Hello, I’ve got a 2009 ram 1500 5.7l 4x4 extended cab short bed. I do not have any sort of lock on my tailgate period. I’m looking to see if anyone has found any replacement tailgate latches with the locking mechanism. Preferably electric but that won’t matter unless I find a manual lock. Has anyone had any luck and would be able to help me?

When my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Bighorn Quad Cab was brand new

It came with the basic latch in the tailgate

It came originally with the non locking handle

I bought the latch that came in the Laramie

I think this was the 2 different handles

I added this camera, we didn't not know that there were better ones at that time

this might have been the new handle with lock & camera

I had the dealership install the harness to the radio for the camera

I don't think that they had remote locks for the tailgate back then

The electric kit for the early 4th gens was Mopar P/N 82211668AB.

It's since been discontinued. However, I'd like to think the 2013 latch would fit; as the tailgate didn't physically change....but what do I know?

That being said, I installed the electric kit from Mopar back in 2012. The lock actuator stopped working a couple months ago; and I haven't been able to source a reasonably priced replacement. Perhaps I will try to buy some 2013+ locking 'guts' and try; but it is low on my priority list.

Same thing happened on my '11 and I picked up a Dorman actuator from RockAuto for $86 CAD. Not real cheap I know but has been working good for about a year so far.

I have a 14 express tailgate handle with a lock. I am looking to find a part# of an earlier handle that doesn't have a lock since I have trouble getting the tailgate to close without opening the cover plate and working the actuator rods to keep it from opening while driving. I wold love to get rid of my setup and snip the wires on my electric lock.

It is real easy to unplug the electric locking mechanism electrical plug

Look at the other post that you posted on, there are 2 videos about the tailgate handle assembly, that you should take the time to watch
