I just finished my 10,000 mile oil change. My brother has been a big advocate to yank all the fluid out of the truck and put fresh fluid in, then normal service interval. I usually have followed his advice. Front and rear dif, x-fer case, and power steering. (not brake). Do you guys agree with that? Should I perform those services or waste of time and money?

I would only do the two diffs personally. They get pretty gnarly during the wear in. And I may consider the xfer case if I spent a lot of time in 4wd, otherwise I wouldn't until the manual says you should.

Trans, coolant, steering etc- you'd be throwing money away. Seriously- a lot of it. Some people swear by doing things like this, it's almost religious, simply because they've done it before and things always worked and they feel it relates to that kind of service habit but that's truly unnecessary and hard on the wallet.

Side note- when you say 10000mile oil change, you don't mean this is the first time you've changed oil, right?

I pretty much just stick to what the owner's manual says but that is for warranty purposes. I don't have much interest in driving one of these newer trucks out of warranty. I know there's always the urge to plan for owning a truck for 1,000,000 miles and 40 years but statistics say you won't.

image.jpg image.jpg Looks like enough people swallowing the 10000 mile bs will have me buying new. What a wonderful way to break in a engine,I’m on my fourth oil in 7 k and at 10 the diffs trans and transfer get changed.

I’m a big believer in proper maintenance but 4 oil changes in 7k miles on quality full synthetic oil? Seems like Literally pouring money down the drain.

I run Amsoil and did a break in oil change at 3k and will change every 5k but I feel like the Amsoil can safely go quite a bit further than that. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

It’s new and new means a break in at 1k 3 k after oil filters are still the same when it’s agreed oil is crazy good. Plus I put the blower on at 3k so it’s not babied. And I have a corvette so pouring money down the drain is my hobby

My mindset for this probably stems from the amount of hydraulic pumps ive cracked open to find the culprit to be foreign particles wearing down the internal components but im right there with you. The more you change the oil the more break in shavings get removed

Oil filters can’t do it for 10 k,it’s sickening to me,but I’m at a point where I can buy new or have my buddy rebuild it. And we all know that 1 gal.of gas produces 1-52 gallons of water which may or may not get blown out or boiled off .Deposits varnish and sludge created by blowby. 10 k really?sounds like the idea of no drain plug on my Honda lawn mower, just add oil.
