So my search for exhaust has been a little frustrating.

I mean, I've always had Flowmasters (lastly on a 2006 Silverado with a 6.0 Max) and always have liked the sound of the 40 series, BUT a little worried about drone, especially on MDS.

Flowmaster make a bolt-in system like that of the Mufflex (Flowmaster PN#817568) but I can't find anything out about it. Of course according to their phone support there is no drone, but it is a 50 series also. Worried it will be pretty much stock sounding (so why spend the money). Good news is, it is a bolt-on and is all stainless.

I do like the sound of the 14" Mufflex, at least what I hear on the video clips, BUT, it ( and the Flowmaster) is pretty expensive for what it is.

Now, talking to the local custom exhaust place, he is RIDICULOUS for what he is doing. For a 40 series Flowmaster or a Magnaflow installed, he is telling me $300 in steel, $400 in stainless. Just out outrageous considering he told me "yea, it will take a half hour to a hour to do". $100 for the muffler, and $200 to install? Shop rate of $200 a hour?

Talked to Hearthrob out in Litchfield, MN (I live in Minneapolis) and they can do a bolt in kit for $190, in stainless, but have never heard one in person. They claim 8-10HP, and "drone-less", but other than a cheap audio clip there is not much I can find about it.

Would like to see what you guys think of all of this?

Yeah man, screw that. Order a muffler from moes, and have a local shop weld it up. ^NOT THAT GUY!

Mufflers

You'll be out maybe $150 for everything.

If you cut the old muffler off yourself, you'll prolly save on the install costs. That's what I did on my 05, saved me $35.

I have never been much of a fan of Flowmaster mufflers on our trucks. I ran a 10 series and 40 series on my 03 hemi, and felt a power loss with each. I have had much better results from Magnaflow. Having said that, you will get a little drone with the 14". I would recommend keeping your resonators on, or going with the 18" if drone is a big issue for you.

Well had an appointment at a local shop on Friday, talked to the guy earlier in the week on what I wanted (40 series flowmaster or a 14" Magnaflow) he supposedly had both in stock when I called.

I showed and he had a Pro Flow muffler, not what I wanted, but did the whole "it's the same thing" speach. Then I repeated that I wanted everything clamped, not welded (I'm leasing the truck) and he started off with "I dunno, those clamps on there are really hard to get off (referring to the stock ones)"

Needless to say, I just gave up and will buy a Mufflex or the Flowmaster direct bolt in and just do it myself.

I like my 18 inch magnaflow (welded in). It isnt very loud though, or atleast from in the cab it isnt. I do notice it when I shove her to the floor!

Get a 14" Mufflex and be happy. You can easily install it yourself.
Took me all of 30 minutes.

Unless they've changed their evil ways, you'll need a better from clamp. I just went with a good ol fashion clamp and have had no problems. It would make returning to stock a touch more difficult though.

I just get really frustrated when I get treated like the "dumb-**** customer"

They didn't even take a look at my truck, supposedly they could tell from the office that the clamps were going to be hard to get off. He wanted to saw them off.

I didn't even want to waste the time telling him my truck was only 3 weeks old from the dealer, with a June build date. It's not like they have gone thru a Minnesota winter or anything.

The factory clamps are actually very easy to get off, even if the truck is a few years old. That is the reason why I started doing everything myself. Its hard to put your $40k truck in the hands of someone that doesnt care.

I got the 14" magnaflow installed and the resonators cut out on my 2012 for $260. The drone is not that bad. With the stereo on i can hardly even hear it.
