Looking at getting a cold air intake for my truck but was wondering if anyone has experience with the Rough Country kit? I don't want to spend 400$ right now so looking at the more budget models.

Do not waste your money on an aftermarket CAI. On a stock engine you will see absolutely zero gains and just have a lighter wallet.

The stock airbox is already a true CAI and is plenty good even on a slightly modded truck. If you want however you can buy a lower airbox off an ecodiesel, the intake is slightly larger.

If you really really feel like you want to do a CAI then look into S&B or vararam

^^^ the only Cai that actually have any gain are the vararam,s&b, and the leg maker but that's more of a track intake. Now when I say gains don't expect 50hp lol. You get better throttle response and it'll deepen you exhaust. I have the vararam where it shines is on the highway when you kick it down to pass pulls noticably harder than stock. Anything under 40 or so prolly gains nothing. But I have seen unbaised nothing to gain dynos that show gains on those 3 in stock form.i love my vararam because of looks. Some have had issues with snow and it can be a pita to get the filter and lid and everything to seal properly. If you get a vararam get a outerwear prefilter.

Another one here to say save money. I got a Volant CAI with the lower scoop and it's a nice intake but like Ohio said I only have noticed a better throttle respond and maybe a little bit of a better pull but if I had to choose again I would have gotten a Fastman throttle body.

All in all save your money I'd say unless you plan on going to the track often.

If you're not planning on doing supporting mods and/or tuning, stick with your stock intake. Put the wider pleated Ecodiesel/6.4 filter (68190705AA) in for a bit better flow and call it a day.

You could also look into the Ecodiesel lower intake box and duct...
