2004 3.7L AC problem

I have a Dodge 1500 3.7L.
It has been making a rattling sound for a few months now, when heat or ac is on. Seemed worse at idle. Heat and air worked fine during that time. Until the other day when it stopped rattling, the ac & heat stopped working at the same time. This goes on... it will rattle (ac and heat work) then it will stop rattling ( ac and heat stop working). Nothing comes out of ANY vent, or defrost.

The sound seems to come from the ac compressor. Any help is appreciated.

I have good mechanical skills. I know nothing of AC unit workings.

Sounds like the blower motor finally gave out if you have nothing coming out of any of the vents. The rattle was probably a broken fin or something that fell onto the fan and causing it to be out of balance
