i have a 05 dodge ram Daytona 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 hemi 93k. Three weeks ago i started it up and the check engine light came on. was code p0344 (intermittent cam sensor signal) I replaced the cam sensor, cleared the code and noticed it started easier. Two weeks later while driving at 55 the engine shutterd and the check engine light came on again. code p0344 and a code p0016. I took it home cleared the codes and it ran fine, idled nice and everything. Drove it the next day and the p0344 code came back. On the way home it shut off at least 3 times but restarted right away and made it home. Since then I replaced the cam sensor, crank sensor, and cam sensor connector. I have 5v and ground at the cam sensor. I pulled the battery cable and left it sit 24 hours. As soon as I start it I get the p0344 code. I only ever got the p0016 code that one time while driving. It sits and idles steady. I can rev it and its fine.
i read some where about the timing chain may have jumped out of time, tensioner is weak and left it jump. They also said it would run rough. I hate to tear it apart and this is not the problem. It only has 93k on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you replace the parts with factory Mopar sensors or go cheap and buy Chinese crap at auto zone or advance?

if it is idling and revving smoothly it is not going to be the timing chain.

I always buy my sensors from the dealership, Mopar parts online, or Rock auto as they have Mopar new old stock.

You could have purchased a defective crank position sensor..... i have done that before when i could not afford factory parts.

I used various brand cam and crank sensors from auto zone and rock auto. I do not think they where mopar. Mopar is what I normally try and buy when available. Rock auto did not have mopar the last time i was on there site. I am going to have some one else take a look at it in the next week or so.
Thanks for replying.

You may also have a short somewhere if it is intermittingly shut off on you. Please keep us posted about whatever you find out. FYI.... i also every couple of years put a new belt tensioner on the truck whether it needs it or not..... I change out the small cheaper items like sensors and mechanicals when ever i have a couple extra bucks to burn..... Keeps the truck on the road and no worries about breaking down..... has worked well for me.

Had my truck looked at yesterday by a local garage. Everything looked good. They tested the new cam sensor i installed and it was bad. Tried to get me a mopar one but they where back ordered for at least 3 months or discontinued. They bought a standard motor products brand and it worked. They said the chrysler products are very picky with cam sensors. I tried at least 3 brands and none of them worked. They tested one I took out earlier and said it tested bad. They where brand new. I think I found a mopar one on ebay. Bought it. They also updated my pcm with an update from 2009 dealing with code p0344 and p0340. So far so good. See what happens next.

RustyBaxter did the pcm update do the trick?

I have the 4.7 and replaced sensors with mopar, ended up doing the timing chain, and replaced the connector at the cam sensor location. I even updated the coils since i read they could send electrical feedback breaking up the 5v signal.

I was thinking about replacing the PCM at this point but maybe an update is all it needs.
