2006 3500 no Infinity amp or steering wheel controls

Hello
my 3500 does not have the Infinity amp so I have read that I do not need a CANBUS harness for an after market radio, true or false, or easier with the CANBUS harness?
From what I read simply connecting the red wire from the radio to an ACC circuit is all that needs to be done to get it to work?
Oddly when I use the 12 volt cigarette lighter as a source the radio comes on but does not turn off when I shut off the ignition, despite that the source is ACC.
At 67 years old I have installed a few radios over the years but none such a PITA as this truck.

As long as you use a harness that interfaces properly with the truck so you don't start hacking up the onboard CAN you will be good.
