My 2006 Ram 1500, 5.7 won't start. It started on Saturday, we were headed out of town, fiance punched the gas, engine light came on, lost oil pressure, pulled over, checked oil, 2 quarts low, added oil, won't start, called tow truck he said starter was bad. We tried starting it while tapping on starter, starter started smoking, changed it, truck started.
Sunday we try to leave town again, same thing happens, give it gas lose oil pressure won't start. Changed the oil pressure sensor, won't start, checked battery, tester reads unstable battery, which we have never had trouble with, bought new battery, still won't start, don't know what else to try before taking to shop.
Thanks for any help!!

The fact you lost oil pressure is not a good sign. When you say your starter wasn’t starting, what was it doing? Was it clicking or turning over but not starting?

It almost sounds like a blown head gasket. If water gets into your cylinder heads that prevent the engine from turning over and could fry your starter if it gets stuck on. Check your oil filler cap. If it looks like chocolate milk it’s probably a blown head gasket (from oil and water mixing).

The starter was clicking, not turning over the motor. When we added the oil, the cap did look a little wet.
