Hello forum. I hope all is well. I'm new to the forum. My issue is 2007 engine blew up. I have two engines available to me a 2005 5.7 1500 hemi or 2007 2500 5.7. I wanted to know which one would work best to drop in & is there a lot involved in swapping to these. I appreciate all the help. All the best during these challenging times.

The 2007 2500 will likely be the best choice as it is the exact same engine. The 2005 does not have MDS but I think, and don't quote me on this, but I think the 2007 2500 does. I'd do a little research on that, make sure it does. Thatd probably be your best bet. How did your engine blow up? I have a 2007 1500 5.7 I'm nervous now lol what happened?

I bought for someone I believe I caught it on its last leg. The body was in real good shape. The piston decided it wanted some more air via outside the engine . Neither of these engines have mds. The 2005 is out of a Chrysler Aspen ( I have to research whether the taps are on the side of the block) I know the 2007 ram 2500 does. Thanks for the reply

Neither of those engines will have MDS. 2500's with 5.7 did not have it.

Good morning pajeepman. I hope all is well with you. Do you know if a 2005 Chrysler Aspen 5.7 will drop in a 2007 ram 1500. I know the 2005 doesn't have mds. I'm good on that. Thanks for all the help

I know my 2007 2500 with the 5.7L HEMI didn't have MDS.

No. You're confusing MDS with VVT. VVT introduced on the eagle in 2009, MDS in the 1500's in 2006.

@Ibcalm24 use the 05 1500 engine. Other than not having MDS, it will already have EGR which the 2500 engine will not have (and you'd either have to add or get a custom tune to turn it off). The Aspen 5.7 will work as well, same conditions, just make sure it isn't from an Aspen Hybrid. I could be wrong, but I think there were differences.
