Trying to understand the vent hose operation with vent cap extended from the drivers side rear axle to up under the wheel well..

Repalced the gear fluid and pinion seal, while doing that checked the hose and it seems you need to put a fair amount of air threw it to confirm it “vents”

I can’t blow through it with my mouth, although I can with a quick short blast with the air compressor.

should there be some resistance or should it be as clear as a straw?

also, the vent plastic white breather at the end is clear and I checked it, it’s not a “check valve” as some have claimed, you can blow and suck in and out no problem with that device.

don’t want to fix something that’s not broke, thought maybe my pinion slight leak was maybe the vent clogged.
TIA!

The hose should not have any resistance. It should blow through. May need to install a new hose if the inside is collapsing on it.

Read somewhere that there is 7 psi to keep fluid in and water out, also in the past when checking level viscosity via rubber fill vent it always “sprayed“ out when opening, I’m not questioning your answer just trying to make sure that vent hose should be wide open, thanks for responding

Should be no pressure inside the diff when you pull the plug to check the level.Either your vent hose has collasped as Khris stated above,or else the vent nipple is plugged.I'd replace the hose, and check and make sure the nipple isn't clogged, you can use a piece of stiff wire to clean out the nipple if it's showing signs of being plugged.
