So i have a 2011 5.7 hemi sport ccsb with 35's (nitto trial grapplers) and am only able to average 10 mpg.

I've only owned this truck for a few month, but seems like no matter how i drive or where (city/town) i cant get any better then 12 mpg. city worst ive seen is 8.5 mpg.

I have hand calculated my miles and it is spot on, as well as the gps and speedo are the same, so i feel like it has been re calibrated for the larger tires.

Am i just stuck with this mileage? or do you think that there is anything i can do for improvements. My truck just turned past 78,000 miles so im not sure if any type of typical maintenance may be at fault here? any help would be greatly appreciated!

12 isn't terribly far off with 35's. Do you have cold air intake? I would add that for sure, maybe give it a tune up, if those are original plugs that is way over due. I get around 14mpgs on the stock tires, mostly city but some highway. As for 8mpg, I don't know what to say about that. Seams above my pay grade to figure that one. You use 89 gas? Real nice truck, I love that color.

I don't know about most of the people on here, but I think most will agree. That is a bit low, but pretty close to what you should expect with the tires you have on there. My 10 since I got it the first of the year has averaged about 12.5 to 13 in town and around 15.5 to 16 on the highway (80mph speed limit here).

My old 02 only got around what you are describing when I had the 325/60/20 on it. When I went back to the stock size, 275/60/20, it bumped up to the 11.5-12 in town and around 14.5 on the highway.

You could try to see if the plugs have been changed at the 60K mark as I have seen most say they should be. That may help some, but I wouldn't expect much from that. You might just be set with what you have, unless you want to change the tires.

Actually, I believe the Hemi plug change is 30-32k mark.

I saw a good hit after just leveling mine and removing the front air dam. I can only image it's worse with 35's since they are so heavy. To put it in perspective, the tires we all love to hate weight 41lbs a piece.

Yeah that's low man. Here are a couple screen shots of my mileage. The first was a trip I did with a 25 ft. Enclosed trailer and my sled. The second was just going back and forth to work (2 miles away) with lots of remote start! The last one is when I first got my 35's. It was strictly highway mileage, it's the only log I have where I don't idle on remote start or drive in city.

This is with a 5" lift and 35" duratracs

It's the price you pay for looking cool. The only way to improve the mpg enough to matter is stock tires and remove whatever lift you have.

I average about 10.5 on my 2 mile trip to work and back. Mines a 14 CC and 5.7 hemi. Reason is its basically a giant hill and then back down to my job and then on my way home is all up hill till it peaks and then all down hill to my house. It's bc I'm gassing it on a semi Warm to cold motor to get to work on time and then rushing to get home. Plus winter gas sucks!

Normally I average about 14-16mpg city With a good bit Of light throttle and coasting and 19-24 highway depending on grade etc. Mines all stock, tires.and rims But I have a A low roll tonno cover and a vararam, oil catch can, muffler Swap to help.

I have basically the same truck with the 6 speed and I only get 10.5-11 in the city. No mods at all. I think I drive it like an old man most of the time and the mileage is horrible.

It's hilarious how you tap the throttle even when below 2k the evic mpg setting shows less than 10mpg lol its insane how a 345cuin motor at 2k can only get 10mpg, I know most will say it's heavy and not aerodynamic. Old school 350tpi in a 86-92 firebird and camaro got like 25-28mpg highway and high teens city. That's old school efi, gen 1 SBC and heavy at 3300-3800lb no driver.

These trucks like the gas... no doubt about it.

Unfortunately I'd say that's probably about right. My 2013 5.7 CCSB 4x4 has 32" trail grapplers and I avg about 12 mpg. I can get 2-3 more when on the highway for a while, but that doesn't happen much.

I've thought about getting a tuner to try and squeeze out a bit more, but how long would it take to recoup that cost!?! It sucks, but it's a big heavy truck!

Just in case anyone is wondering, on average the 35's weight about 62lbs per tire, where the Goodyears are 41lbs, but math tells me that is a 84lb difference across the board. It might not seem like much, but I'd beat money that the extra weight + the tread means that rolling starts require a higher RPM and thus you're gassing it more than before the aggressive tires.

Well that's my theory for whatever it's worth.

Well the 8 mpg was 2 weeks of staying in town and mainly to work while being cold. my commute is about 2 miles too.

Highway at 70 mph is usually 12 tho. slower i go the better

I mainly just use 87, have used 93 gas few times.. think it helps? but to many variables to really tell

ya. i do have the bilstein 5100 installed as well. so that with the 35's definitely isnt helping at all

Thats what i was afraid of =/

My commute isnt really a big hill. but i think the short commute and cold weather is what kills my mpg

thats pretty surprising. i would think without tires mpg would go up quite a bit. but maybe not?

According to my evics I'm using 23 L/100 kms right now (10 US mpg). I've gone 77 kms and am almost through 1/4 of a tank lol. My mileage is never this bad but I let it idle for 5 mins every day and then drive a couple kms to work.

You mentioned that you were getting 12 doing 70 mph. Here's my mileage doing 70-75 for a trip.

Is your oil fresh? I run only synthetic.
How many kms on your truck? Time to change spark plugs?
When was the last time you cleaned your air filter?

I have an S&B cai on my truck. Usually my tuner is on too but has been off because i need to take the truck to the dealer. The tuner improved my mpg by 1. That's hand calculated too

The last tank of mixed driving, I got 16.98 US MPG, hand cal.
I've gotten 20.

I don't idle. Normally drive pretty smooth, but I romp on it a bit here and there. Coast where applicable. But I'd don't usually start cold, drive a short distance and shut it off. That's a killer.

They're capable of decent fuel economy if you try, which I'd ont very often. But it's nice to know the potential is there.

Ya im about the same boat as you for the idleing/short drive.

No tuner/cold air intake tho. as for plugs, i've only had this truck about 5k miles so im not sure when they were changed last (78,000 total mailes). do u think plugs and plug wires might do something? I used semi-synthetic oil last change.

I have the 3.55 gears, think thats part of the reason?

Think a cai and a tunner would help for my situation?

If I had 35s, I'd have a 4.56 final drive with that 545RFE.

You'll never recoup the money spent on gears, CAI, tuner. But I guarentee you'll like your truck a whole lot more! Gas mileage, I would have to guess, would get a little better.

Right now I'm running the 91 octane Hemi Fever, but I usually put 93 in, just to be on the safe side.

When I started to get poor mileage in my last truck I switch the plugs. I think it helped but I can't remember lol.

I'm using Penzoil Platinum 5W 20 oil with a K&N synthetic filter. No hemi tick either!

I have a Diablo Trinity T 1000 with a hemifever 91 tune on. I do get better mileage with the tune. On similar long mileage trips doing 70+ I average 14 without the tuner, and 15 with it (US mpg) (16.2 and 17.9 l/100 kms) with the tuner I also had a 500 lb sled in the back for the return trip so usually it would have been better again.

A CAI would probably help too, some disagree bit I do not. I have a thread somewhere where I compare before and after. I'll try and find it. Even if you put a drop in filter it would help. The stock intake works decent

Your gears don't help either. I've got 3.92 gears with the 8 speed so I have a bit of a leg up with bigger tires on. They can definitely get the tires rolling easier!

I just got back from a little trip out of town. 5 hours each way, and my Hwy fuel economy was 13.6L/100Km down (about 20.7 MPG) and 13.5l/100Km (About 20.9) on the way back. This is only going 10-15km over the speed limit when I could, and sometimes less due to travel. Just hwy cruising. No WOT unless I was making a pass. I have a 2011 Ram 1500 Sport CC stock as I just picked it up a few weeks ago.
