So, after a bit of lurking I decided that I was ready to add some upgraded sound to my Ram.

I am currently running RES head unit (base speakers) with Planet Audio 4ch amp. Front components are Focal R-165S2 on channel 1 and 2, and channel 3 and 4 to a Alpine SWS-12D4. Fiberglass enclosure, DIY sound deading (won't do that again) and Scosche LOC. Factory rear door speakers off the HU.

Future plans include a new head unit, DSP, and active components.

nice! very clean.

How did you mount the board to the rear wall?

And did you just use one layer of fiberglass?

I used liquid nails and just glued MDF strips to the back wall and then velcro the amp board to the strips.

Nice work!! The install looks great! I may end up redoing my fiberglass enclosure to fit a 12...

I am just curious... did you have trouble with the diy sound deadening? or did it not quiet the cab enough?

"I am just curious... did you have trouble with the diy sound deadening? or did it not quiet the cab enough?"

I have not had an issue with it. I used the roof material on the back wall and front doors and then painted with the elastomer paint. Later I found some butyl rubber peel and stick (from Home Depot) and used it on the door panels, inner door panels and floor. The foil backed material on the back wall is foam duct insulation. I have this material on the floor as well as the back wall.

I wished I had not used the tar material on the back wall and doors and want to double up the butyl rubber material as it is only about 1/32" thick.

There is a definite difference as I can barely hear the exhaust (factory) at this point, but I have a good bit of noise from the doors still. I need to add more rubber and some foam to the doors.

I have never had a vehicle that I went this deep into and have no real reference to what it should sound like or not sound like. This is not my loudest system (97 RCSB chevy 2 10's, 6.5 comp) but very close. So far this one probably has the best sound. I assume this the sound deading?

It sucks though I spent a good bit of time and money with techflex and shrink wrap and it shows no where in the truck.

Good to know. I haven't started on my doors yet but really need to. They seem so much louder now that the back wall and floor have been done. It's amazing how much difference sound deadening makes even with mostly stock speakers.

Well thanks for your write ups. Your fiberglass write up was the info that put me in for trying the fiberglass. I had never messed with fiberglass before. It also gave me the information to start the deading process.

Glad that it helped you give it a try. I would not have done it myself if not for seeing the threads posted by others on here.

If you decide to redo your doors please take some pics. I would like to know what I'm in for when I do mine. :)

I plan on working on them this weekend. have some of he roof material in there already, what I could reach from the speaker hole and access on the other side. I think I'm gonna try to take the inner door panel out to access the door skin.

Well I worked on the doors some today and they are much better. Also did some tuning this weekend.

I am very disappointed with the Planet Audio amp. Using a DMM and the math I am only putting out 75 to 80 watts per channel to my sub. I did change it over and I am now running it Bridged at 8 ohms This sounds much better but it is still only around 150 watts.

The inner door panels on the front doors are not hard to remove but the back doors are a pain. There is no way to release the inner glass clip. I had to reach in through the speaker opening and use both hands to release the clip.

I think I am going to redo my speaker plates as they put the speaker very close to the door panel grill and I have plenty of clearance behind the speaker.

Thanks for the pics!! You convinced me to stop with just applying peel-n-stick to the door through the access holes. I don't trust myself to put everything back together without problems.

Sucks that the PA amp is putting out so little power. :( I am very happy with my JBL amp if you are looking for reasonably priced replacements.
