I just picked up a 2013 Ram Big horn Hemi.

What is the stock plug used in these 5.7
Is there a better plug than the stock from factory.

I plan on changing plugs as truck has 90k and dont know when they were changed
I did not get any books/owners manual with truck so if someone could help with need info.

thanks

There’s some guys that say taking the wheel liners out helps getting to them easier...

A topside creeper also helps if you are going to do it from the top and have access to one...

Congrats, OP, for swapping 'em since you don't know the rig's history...may I suggest you change all the fluids, too (if you haven't already)?

Yes, .045 is correct. Have fun with the back 4 on the drivers side and back 2 on the passenger side. For the drivers side rear 4, disconnect the brake booster hose and get it out of your way. For the back couple on the passenger side, take the computer harness out of the couple of places that it’s mounted (not necessarily from the PCM itself) and take the heater core hoses out of their clamps so that you can move them out of your way as well. All of that will make the job a little easier. I just did my plugs at 60k on my 13 1500 Sport and it was easy for the most part from the top.

TXTCOMT,

They were worn, but I don't think the original owner replaced them at 30K. I used the E3 spark plugs just to see what the hype was about and I haven't noticed any difference than I would have gotten with the stock plugs. Next time, i'm going back to stock Autolite or NGK plugs. I was leaning more towards the Autolites being an old school gear head as that's what Mopar used to use other than Champions, but I never cared for the Champions unless they were going into a lawn mower or snow blower or something like that.

I just checked the plugs i got the other day and they are SPLZFR5C11 which are 92145 100 k plugs.

Bought truck 4 weeks ago and has 90k but dont know when they were last changed.

The change happened mid 2013 and the easiest way is to call the dealership parts department and ask them whether the plugs were nickel or iridium. They will ask for the last 8 of the VIN and can look it up and tell you what it came with from the factory.

If you find that you needed the old style plugs instead of the iridium plugs and you want to install the iridium plug anyway you need to also replace the coil packs to the later ones also. For some reason the hemis that ran the old style plugs do not like any other type of plug. Some people have put different style plugs in only to have to replace them with the old style because their truck ran like ****. I'm sure there are exceptions, and I'm sure someone is going to say they used the iridiums and had no problem, but lots of folks have had problems-----

Do you know what year did this changed? I thought I had read it was 2014 but I can’t find where I read that...

I think it may have been mid year in 13. I had an early 13 and still used the 30k plugs but some people have said they had late 13's and they had the iridium plugs. But I don't know exactly----
