I am a widow that still drives my husband's 2013 Ram Hemi with 94,500 miles on it and was told I have to have the "Big" tuneup done soon. My question is, should I get this done at the dealership and pay the price, which I know will be high, or should I find a local mechanic with a good reputation to do this job? I understand it needs spark plugs changed etc. I did have a transmission tuneup at 59K miles, brakes and rotors at 83k miles , one side of exhaust manifold replaced 3 yrs ago and always oil changes at 4 or 5k miles. This vehicle has only seen 3 New England winters and always garaged, not rust. I look forward to your guidance, thank you so much. By the way, I am in the lakes region of New Hampshire. Thank you in advance.

I have had very good luck with local mechanics. That includes keeping a used 1979 Scottsdale running for 20 years and a complete overhaul of a 2005 Magnum I bought new. I can't imagine what the work would have cost at even a good straight up dealership.

I'll second what Magfan2 mentioned above. Do your research and find a good shop, even if you have to travel aways. The 100k service doesn't happen often, so it's worth the effort.

If you have to make a road trip of it, spend a night in a hotel and have a nice dinner in a good restaurant while you wait, that is a small price to pay for another 100k trouble free miles.

Btw. Have them to a brake fluid flush/replace, it that isn't already on the list.

You had a transmission tuneup? Meaning fluid was changed? And that is the 8 speed transmission correct?

Make sure they use Mopar oat ten year coolant, even buy it and supply it a great idea. It costs a little more for the pre mix, but you are over due for this item if not done and well worth this money. Two jugs 17 each.

Make sure you request the correct Mopar plugs and even offer to order them if they wont, might want to insist if they are indeed a good mechanic they wont even suggest different. You might want to ask cost to replace OEM coil packs, I'm on the fence here, usually coil packs last two spark plugs changes or better, but if it makes sense do it. Not doing it isn't a big deal, if there ever is a mis fire code this is an easy replacement item.

If trans fluid was done and brakes are two, I would leave those be, no reason to run up the tab. Have them check the condition and level of brake fluid.

I'd use an independent as well, dealers these days use their shop to subsidize their entire operation.

As stated above, find a good shop, ask friends, go to a auto parts store you trust and ask them
