Had a 2007 1500 Ram that I installed a trailer brake controller in. I bought the truck new and it came with a plug for the trailer brakes. All I had to do was splice the wires together then plug it in.
Traded that truck in on a 2013 slightly used in 2013. Both had the factory tow package but this one didn't have the plug. I assume the original owner lost it? Anyway, may need to tow a travel trailer about 3 hours away this weekend and grabbed my old brake controller out of the box and looked at the plug. Looked under my dash on my 2013 and didn't see anything looking similar. Called my step-son who has a 2015 with trailer brakes and he took a pic of his plug. Yep, looks completely different than mine.

Any ideas if the 2007 and 2013 had the same plug? His is only sitting on his console so he only has to unplug the plug so worst case I might take his box and plug it into mine. I will be mounting it to my dash though so it is firmly secured.

Another question...I know way back the brake boxes were momentum controlled with a 'pendulum' type mechanism. Is that still the case? Just wondered as he has his sitting on his console. I told him that is dangerous because they should be securely mounted so there is no movement?

Depends. Some low end units are still inertia(pendulum) control. The better units are electronic, and use brake pressure.

I doubt the '07 and a '13 use the same brake module plug. As far I know, you can get both inertia and timer type aftermarket trailer brake controllers. The newer factory brake controller uses a combination of braking force and speed.

Thanks guys. I will take another look tomorrow. Maybe I can just buy the plug for my truck and re-splice my box

Yep. the 2013 has the same plug as the 2015's do. Different than my 2007. Anyone know where to find that plug? I need the end that plugs into the truck harness and goes to the brake controller. I found a Reese #85067 that looks like the right one. Might need it by Friday so need it locally.

Well my son is now working in WV and the hotel situation isn't great so we towed my daughters 25' camper down to him (3 hour drive). Since I didn't have trailer brakes on my truck I towed it from my daughters to my house with my truck (flat ground) then used my step-fathers 2017 Laramie Longhorn to tow it to WV. Went fine with no issues but the trailer is only maybe 5000lbs (no slideouts). It's a 25' Sunline tandem axle. Has 2 exit doors with a rear bedroom. Thats about all I know about it...lol.

So had to go to the local RV shop to get a few things for it and asked about the brake control adapter for my truck. They had it there for $10 so got it. Pulled my old Reese Brakeman Digital out of the box from my last truck. I bought that one about 2007ish. Hooked it all up and all looks good. I don't have any trailers here with electric brakes so can't test it but the dot lights up like it is supposed to so looks good. Worst case I will have to buy a new controller but think I am good here.
