Recently purchased a 2014 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the 5.7L Hemi V8 and 4-wheel drive. I've mainly been driving in 2-wheel drive, but getting ready for slippery boat ramps and winter, I decided to try 4-wheel auto. The truck "feels" and sounds different - felt/heard through the floorboard - when using 4-wheel auto as compared to 2-wheel drive. Is it just me adjusting to the new truck... adjusting to 4-wheel drive (last truck only had 2-wheel drive)... or is something perhaps amiss?

It almost sounds like the exhaust is tuned differently when in 4-wheel auto, or perhaps even some whirring going on under my feet.

Thanks,
Walter

Weird, I just got a 2014 Sport. I've never tried the 4 wheel auto yet. I should give it a go.

Even though the T-case doesn’t send power to the front wheels until the rear slips; the front drive shaft will be spinning when you are in 4wd and moving.
Maybe the spinning front drive shaft is what you are noticing? Might not hurt to have a look at the front shaft and make sure none of the joints are worn.

Mine would send power before rear slip, I could test that in sand with a camera all day long. Also you might hear a whirring sound, that’s the fluid lines attached to the radiator support. You can isolate them with some foam or rubber and get rid of the noise.
