I posted this over at diymobileaudio but thought I might also get some additional feedback here.
Here is my planned system configuration:
Components
DSP: Rockford 3SIXTY.3
Amps: Alpine PDXV9 (x2)
Front Speakers: Hertz HSK-165XL 2-ways
Front Mids: Hertz HL70
Rear Speakers: JL Audio C2-650X
Sub: JL Audio StealthBox (SB-D-QDRAM/10W3v3)
Sound Proofing (front & rear doors)
Things I'm still concerned about:
Full Active Configuration
I plan to go full active with the 3-way fronts, and run the rear fills directly off one of the amps as the DSP will not have enough outputs for everything (the DSP has 8 channels of output and I will have 9 speakers including the sub). However, I will lose fader functions this way. Obviously imaging and control over the 3-way fronts is most important. Not sure how best to do this.
Tweeter Placement
I'm told you can fit the aftermarket mids as well as the tweeters in the factory location for the 3" mids in the top corner of the dash. I think the mids will be fine there, but I'm concerned about the imaging with the tweeters reflecting off the windshield. I understand putting the tweeters in the sail panels is less than perfect as they are pointed down in this truck, but I'm thinking that will still be preferable to dealing with reflections off the windshield which will be impossible to control. I have no desire to try to fabricate custom pods for the A pillar. So, I'm leaning toward the sail panels for the tweeters.
Where to Grab the Inputs for the DSP
I'm also still concerned about picking up the input signals for the DSP downstream of the factory amp, but I guess there is still no way around this on the 2014 Rams. So I need to use the high level inputs into the DSP?
I do like loud (but clean and distortion free) music on occasion (I listen mostly to rock), so I have opted for very high sensitivity components up front (the woofer and tweeter are 93.5db, the mid is 91db).
Any thoughts on the components or above install strategy?
