I have a 2014 RAM 1500 3.6L Crew cab.
Im looking for thoughts and reviews on fuel economy. I do alot if highway driving. Currently averaging 21/22 mpg.
Does anyone have advice on what i can do to try and get 25/26 mpg? Or is that a pipe dream? I have done all maintenance.. tune up, trans flush, oil change..etc.
Tuner? Cold air intake?

Thanks

You are moving too much metal with too much frontal mass to achieve your target.
It takes a certain amount of energy to move so much mass and you have to punch through the air mass as well.
Smaller engines essentially use the the same amount of energy to do this as they gave to worker harder than a larger one.
The only time you may save energy with a smaller engine us in urban situations.
Speed, Weight, Frontal Mass with consideration for wind and topography takes a predetermined amount of energy. Size of motor doesn't count for much.

I have a 17 RCSB with the 3.6 and 3.55 gears, RWD. I average around 24 mpg lifetime, 56k miles mostly highway. The main thing is to drive the speed limit (which is between 55 and 65 here. Though I do have 10 miles per day at 70. On a quarterly trip that is 500 miles round trip, I usually average 27 mpg just by driving the speed limit.

I have a 2015 Pentastar V6 Quad Cab 4x4 with 3.21 gears and avg the same as you ! Just did a road trip about 900 miles or so and was about 21/22 at 70/75 . Did try a ways at 65 no real difference in MPG! The best I have seen is 23.4 And agree the the HP to weight differential can play a part. Year ago FORD made a Taurus with a V4 and a V6 my V6 got better MPG then the 4 because of the weight and Mtr ! BUT I am happy with 20/22 with a full size truck :) Would be happier with 25 MPG lol

Well my advice... Don't let Ram flash your computer... Before the AEM, I was getting 26-27 mpg. I drive 70 miles one way to work 6-7 days a week... I drive in Dallas / Fort Worth traffic... And I do speed, 70-80 mph. I do have a light foot other than once I'm at warp...

Now, after the AEM, I'm hard pressed to get closer to 20ish mpg. Same daily 150 mile drive.

I do have K&N cold air, and Hot Shot every 3000 or so miles.

I hope this helps. I'd love a tune, for performance, fuel economy, and transmission enhancements.

I don't know if the computer has been flashed or not, i am second owner. If so can it get reflashed back? Some people have said its the same as the hemi's, better flowing exhaust might help? I love the truck and with the 300+ hp its no dog either.. i remember my '95 chev 5.7 was only like 210..
I do miss the space i had with the '07 mega cab!

I wonder if you unplug the battery for about 30 minutes if the transmission would have to relearn your driving habits ? If I remember ( and I do not do that well :) ) the transmission will adjust to you, so maybe it is in the previous drivers pattern ? I will also try that on mine if the gear heads chime in :)

I didn't read your whole post... You have the 6cy gas engine... I don't know, but you don't have the same EcoDiesel ridiculous hassle... You won't have the AEM flash I talked about.

Either way you can goto https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/dashboard/details.html

Once there, with VIN, complete the typical registration. Then look up recalls etc, pretty decent site with good info.

I fully agree with a great full exhaust upgrade. Outflow is almost more important than intake and performance. Just like hitting the bathroom after a great meal... As it all goes out, both your truck and your feel all better.

I'm a Flow Master fan- full and of possible true dual system. Not just a CAT back. My 98 Sub had true dual, great sound, and increased 3-5 mph (my math) and had increased horse power. That truck too had, K&N filter, with E3 plugs, 8mm plug wires.

I do or did really enjoy the 2015 Ram EcoDiesel... Over the past 8 months, I'm really considering going back to my GMC / Chevy Suburban.

Great discussion!
