Hey guys, knowing we have a lot of knowledgeable car guys here I'm looking for some advice? This is my brothers car.
I have the opportunity to buy this 2015 Z51, with factory equipped Z06, 7 speed transmission from my brother. The car was kept in immaculate condition until a stroke knocked him for a good one. The body's in perfect condition and has never been in an accident.
The car runs perfectly fine, still immaculate on the inside and under the hood and tires are fine, his nephew comes over and drives him around in it sometimes to keep it moving. Brand new factory battery too with less than 50k miles on the car, he babied it until his stroke.
It was gorgeous when shiney and new looking. He wants me to buy it for a brotherly price to keep in the family, but I'm not sure what a "brotherly" price would be and he needs to come up with that price I told him.
What I do know is this car with this mileage and package in mint condition is bringing around $38k-$43k at Carmax, so definately lower person to person.
My question: As you can see the clear needs bad attention to correct or is it at a respray point? I think the paints okay(?) but probably wouldn't know until I started wet sanding on it to bring it back. I can do this, but can't respray if needed.
Your thoughts on bringing it back, is the clear too far gone, no peeling just the hazing you see. That's not dust or dirt, it's faded clear on the hood. The top, how hard is this to bring back? And, a fair price to offer, knowing it might need a possible respray?
I really value your feedback, thanks.

i'd pass.. they're money pits.

i had an '81....piece of crap as a stock car

Drove a C5 for a couple of hours...felt every flaw and bumps in the road, had so much road noise, i had to practically yell at the person next to me.

maybe the new ones have improved, but, on a more positive side, they do look amazing! Certainly a chick magnet.

just my opinion

I would snap it up - the last model with a manual transmission, a convertible and with the Z06 package. It’s a highly desirable car to the Corvette crowd. A good detail shop can probably bring the paint and top back. In the mid-high $30s that car is a vast bargain any day of the week.

I own a 66 Corvette but no newer models so I’m not an expert. But I know there is a lot of demand for the last manual transmission model Vette.

No kidding, you can't get the C8 with a standard anymore, what about the Z06, I thought the 8 speed tranny was the thing? I know zero about Vettes.

The C8 8 speed is a dual clutch auto - no clutch pedal - paddle shifters. It’s good for fast shifts and hard acceleration but it’s not a manual transmission and that is probably the biggest complaint I hear from the guys in the 53-67 Corvette forum that want a more modern driver for their garage.

I had a C6 Z06. There isnt such a thing as a Z06 package as an add on to standard car. Its either a Z06 car or not. Dont think you could get a Z car vert in that year anyway,. The C7 cars are nice rides, the only reason I didnt spring for one is the cockpit is really cramped for an old fart like me.

That staining on the paint and top, most likely wont come out. Thats really bad.

I was curious about the Z51/Z06 comment myself. You either choose the Z51 handling package OR the Z06 performance package. Pretty certain that you can't get both. It's just a 7-speed Tremec and happens to be the same one you could get in the Z06. It isn't specific to the Z06 though. But you could get a convertible Z06 in 2015.

Either way... as long as you aren't trying to get comp prices based on a Z06 make him an offer. Top will likely need replaced. Paint is 50/50. Can't really tell with the grime on it. Good chance it might need a respray.

Yeah, after research my brother was mistaken or just got it wrong.
Z51 only has the 7speed manual and the Z06 8 speed only comes in the Z06.

That's not a Z06 nor a Grand Sport; and it looks like a 1LT trim package.

You can get the 7-speed on the Z06 as well.

I bought a new 2018 torch red Grand Sport and the factory paint was crap. I had a local detailer take care of it and he called me and said the paint was so bad it would take him three days to detail it. He started with a clay bar and then did paint correction and it came out looking like a different car. I sold it during covid when Corvette inventory was horrible and got $1k more than what I paid for it. I drove it for four years, changed the oil three times and changed the brake pads to Power Stop to reduce the dust. My wife laughs at how lucky we were to get all of our money back...

When I was younger, a neighbor bought a new 1971 Pantera de Tomaso - which was being sold new by a local Lincoln Mercury dealer (I think they had the franchise rights for the vehicle).

It never drove it but recall sitting in it and looking over it with friends. Beautiful car.

Tray if you can get it washed I will gladly help you figure out what to do with the paint. It needs a really good decontamination wash and clay first to see what you are dealing with.
