2016 RAM 2500 - 5.0 UConnect - USB vs Bluetooth

i have a new to me 2016 RAM 2500 Tradesman with the 5.0 UConnect Touchscreen radio. One annoying quirk is that if I connect my iPhone via USB and Bluetooth the radio seems to default to Bluetooth streaming and the option to select iPhone/USB as the source is not available (button is grayed out). This is a little annoying because music control thru the touchscreen is limited via Bluetooth while you have full access/control when using USB controls. I don’t like turning Bluetooth on my phone off while driving because then I can’t answr phone handsfree.

I’ve gone thru all manuals and menu settings and don’t see any way around this. Hoping im missing something obvious.

Mine always preferred Bluetooth as well if I had Bluetooth on - no options to change that preference that I'm aware of. In my case, the USB kept disconnecting and changing over to Bluetooth, which was a bit irritating. I think it prefers Bluetooth so that it's easier to cut the music when the phone rings?

So, what I did was to get a 128GB USB geek stick, pack it with music, and plug that into the outlet on the center console/jumpseat. My phone has Bluetooth on, but I only plug USB into it from the charge-only outlet (and chuck the phone into the ashtray/drawer thingy).
