I have a 2016 2500 with the Uconnect 8.4. My daily car and wife's vehicle have Apple Carplay and I really wanted that feature. Mainly for having maps/navigation come up on the screen versus trying to see the phone screen. After watching a couple YouTube videos I tried a cheap Amazon version made by Junsun.

It took me a couple nights to get this installed (only working a few hours at a time).
The install is fairly involved. I consider myself a fairly advanced home mechanic as I've pulled transmissions, replaced via solder stepper motors on instrument panels, weld, etc... and would consider this above the comfort level for many people. This is not a simple unbolt the old system and bolt in the new one and not much in the way of instructions are included. All I can say is thank goodness for finding a YouTube video from a person that shows you what to do.
The new "radio" installs differently than the original and requires you to transfer bezels. This means you have to take apart the section with the stereo knobs and expose the circuit board to transfer over. The hardest part of the job was getting these knobs popped up with the concern of messing up the circuit board.
The wiring looks like a mess as everything is adaptor harnesses, but after plugging it in most makes sense. But again thanks goodness for YouTube videos to explain some things.
For fit and finish it looks fine. There is an issue with the climate control temperature down buttons sticking. This was mentioned in a couple places, so I was able to test fit and verify the issue. A few minutes with some sandpaper fixed the issue.
For function. I just got it hooked up last night and briefly tried it out. Need some more time to mess with it.
No issues syncing my phone and getting Apple Carplay up. Climate control works fine and settings will display on the screen. Initial audio sound quality sounds fine after listening a minute or two.
Current issues. I'm getting no reception from FM radio, just static. Will need to pull it back out and verify the antenna is hooked up correctly (currently have the "white" connector hooked up). Hopefully I just don't have it hooked up correctly.
Need to figure out how to program in the preset FM radio stations. The steering wheel cycles through the ones, but they are all the same default values.
The "voice activation" button on the steering wheel does not seem to function the same. This is the button you push if you want call somebody and then speak their name. Need to play with it more.
Have not tried out the radio mic to see how the hands free call quality is. There are some notes in the YouTube video of wanting a different mic that I need to follow up on.
