Hello,
I have a 2017 Ram 2500-6.4L-60,000 miles
When putting it in drive, it has a delay of about 3-5 seconds before truck moved. Does it cold or hot. every time. Started acting up 2 days ago.
Driving it at 55, letting off the gas, then getting back into it, transmission seems to slip-or not know what gear it wants.
Reverse is fine. Shifts fine also.
Checked fluid-color good-doesn't smell any worse than "Normal"-level is good too.

Scanned it-no codes.

Any help/ ideas are appreciated.

I would probably start by doing the simple (& cheap) things first:

1) Unhook the battery cables (and tying them together) overnight. The re-hook up. It probably won't solve anything, but it might. You never know.

2) Making sure the battery connections are solid and body grounds are good. Make sure the engine to frame ground strap is there and maybe loosen/retighten the bolts.

3) Wiggle the transmission connector (or unplug/inspect pins for corrosion), and re-plug in.

4) If those don't do anything, you could have the dealer reset the transmission 'learn' portion of the computer. Or do it yourself if you have AlfaOBD.

5) Change the fluid and put a new OEM (Mopar) filter/s on it. And Mopar fluid. If not too many miles on fluid, put the fluid back in (but with new filters).

6) While doing the filters, make sure the valve body bolts are all snug. The problem almost sounds valve-body related. There have been a few owners who've had bolts come loose on the valve body. So definitely inspect those.

7) Make sure there aren't any other engine codes, vacuum is good, temperature sensor reads good. This should probably be higher on the list to do first.

8) If none of the above do anything ...which they probably won't (but you never know!), pull off the valve body and swap or inspect.

9) Does your truck have a separate indepenent thermostat valve for the the tranny fluid? Check that and rule that out right away.

10) You might read the tanny section in the dealer service manual. It has all sorts of tips and troubleshooting. That would be a better source.

Most rfe's lose OD clutches first, but the issue is in the valve body. This is the second issue but it may also be related to the first issue if a leaky valve body is causing the delay, and I say if. Check the fluid level and condition. As an immediate fix you can try and transmission cleaner like autorx or a shudder fix product, sometimes these products actually fix the issue but it may just help you in this case as rfe's issue is leaking related but these products might help.

Like other poster said, if you have the bypass thermo valve still on get that garbage the hell of your truck.

I have a warranty so I towed it to the dealer. They say it needs a transmission. Now I have to wait for an insurance rep to check it out.
Thanks for your advice.

Does that include a new torque converter?

You should see if you can keep the old tranny, or buy it back. Put it in storage. You never know what's going to come up with your tk in 50k miles??? My money says it probably just needs one of the items we discussed above. The dealer is inclined to warranty the whole thing (if they can) rather than spend time doing root analysis checks. A tranny shop is inclined to tell you it needs rebuilding. If tranny shops sorted out every small tranny-sniffle which caused shifting problems ...they'd starve or go out of business.

But hey, at least you get a new tranny!! :waytogo:

Fortunately..it isn't costing me a dime. Unfortunately, its on backorder and IDK when I'm getting my truck back.
Yes it includes a new T/C
