Folks, I traded in my 2019 RAM 1500 Classic Warlock for a 2018 RAM 2500... needed the tow power for a travel trailer... Anyway, after taking possession, I was glancing through the manufacture's original window sticker and noticed a Single Disc Remote CD Player. I searched all over and found it under the center console. Unfortunately the manual doesn't give any information on it, other than it is a remote CD player. Does anyone have any specs on these things? I asked the RAM service folks when I had to take it in for the backup tailgate harness and they gave me the 'deer-in-the-headlight' look.

I was wondering if this will play MP3's. And will it play MP3's on a DVD? I don't want to stick anything in there because sometimes wrong format could get stuck and I don't want to damage it. It would be kinda lame if they are slapping a few decade's old CD technology into a 2018 model.

It won't get stuck if you use something with the physical dimensions of Compact Disc format just don't try cassette tapes... ;)

It’s a CD player. Put CD’s in it. See what happens. Make sure they’re round, and relatively flat, and they won’t get stuck.

I was asking about the specs of the player... sheezuz... 100k comedians out of a job and a few here are still trying to be one. I know it plays CDs. But normally when a manufacturer puts a device in a vehicle, they usually provide the specs. Plays CDs is NOT specs!

My 18 ram wouldn't play dvds.i saw on you tube where a guy could play dvds on his challanger so I tried it.i can't remember if I had a ra4 in the truck at the time I must have because he had an older challanger.i would probably say yes on the mp3s on a disc because they have been using the same player for years.however the only way to find out is to put a disc in.all it will do is say media not found.it takes forever for a regular cd to load though.

Well, the other startling thing is that there is ZERO mention of the CD Player in the manual, other than it is a CD player. That is really sorry. Back in 2012 I had a new RAM 1500 that had a window sticker that mentioned a 40GB hard drive. I used the utilities and found total capacity was 20GBin my new RAM. Service folks knew nothing about a hard drive or capacity. Back then, they didn't even know what a GB was. I had to complain to Chrysler and eventually it elevated to a district manager... he authorized a new radio w/ 40GB drive, but it took many months to get to that point... it was hell.

So Dodge/Chrysler/RAM have a bad history with their radio electronics.

I'm with the other guys here. Whether or not it can read the format has no connection to its ability to eject the disc.
I've owned 3 of these trucks, and I go bananas with the audio systems, and I have no idea what your talking about with the 20GB and 40GB hard drives. My dumb Cadillac has a solid state hard drive. And it's about useless. Unless you were buying the license to every song. Even then , it only downloaded some of them when importing from anything but a disk. Stick a thumb drive in and your good to go. Easier to load to.
Back from that tangent, if you just want music, I can assure you it will play basic MP3s and WAV/WMA files. Only because I've used it a long time ago when I still had CDs. It's in such a horrible location though I just can't see using it at all if you have the entertainment hub above. Or just Bluetooth your phone to the truck. The audio from these Bluetooth connections is incredible compared to most others. And check this out if you are interested in video. You could do this with alpha obd instead of buying the tazer

ALL I could find in manual ref CD player. Guess I could rip some MP3;s on a CD and/or DVD and check for U.I have a MY 19 Bighorn with single CD player in which I have a Janis Joplin CD in there.

Uconnect offers connections via USB, Bluetooth and auxiliary
ports (If Equipped). Voice operation is only available
for connected USB and AUX devices. (Remote CD player
optional and not available on all vehicles.)
Push the VR button . After the beep, say one of the
following commands and follow the prompts to switch
your media source or choose an artist.
• “ Change source to Bluetooth”
• “ Change source to AUX”
• “ Change source to USB”
• “ Play artist Beethoven”; “ Play album Greatest Hits”;
“ Play song Moonlight Sonata”; “ Play genre Classical”
TIP: Press the Browse button on the touchscreen to see all
of the music on your USB device. Your Voice Command
must match exactly how the artist, album, song and genre
information is displayed.

OK: I ripped music onto DVD and CDR.

1) Player will not play and/or recognize DVD disc, disc ERROR.
2) Player will recognize/play CDR
3) I ripped 3 MP3 and (3) VMA's and all 6 played in truck. Now there is no info in the Screen, just shows tracks to play.
4) Commercial CDR's have 2 files associated with each song/1 displays file info, 1 actual music. I did not RIP the info, just the music track.
5) Possible if U rip both files associated with each song, (which requires display hidden files), U may get the info displayed on screen ref song, but I did not try.
6) It is just a HECK of a lot easier to Copy All/Rip to USB and play that way which will give U the song info/and songs and long as U copy/rip "both" files for each song.

ALL ABOVE IMHO.....
