hello! this is my first post and I am looking for help please. I have a 2018 ram 1500 eco diesel, and you guessed it, my engine blew at 110,000 km. I am at such a loss, no idea what to do. I am reading long wait times for either new or used replacement engines and both options are at a crazy high cost! Local dealer says there is nothing they can do. is Dodge doing something somewhere about all of these failures? Who can I talk to, where can I go? I can't seem to find any leads on where to start. Any help is appreciated, thanks so much!!

Sorry about your luck. I just replaced the engine in my eco diesel this spring to the tune of about 15k. To my understanding engines are getting a little easier to get but are still very expensive.

I don't keep up with the EcoDiesel scene, so I'm going to ask...are these known short-life engines?

@BenchTest from my understading so far, there is a period of time when they first launched the ecodiesel that yes, they are failing prematurely. I found out about it after I purchased mine and was hoping once I hit the 100K km mark that I was safe as most were blowing before that. but here I am....10,000 km out of warranty and my engine went...there is no rhyme or reason either. I kept up with all of the routine maintenance and it still blew. I don't know what to do. $15K is a lot to put back into a truck if it's not going to last again.

You can try @RamCares to see if they can help with a good will replacement or some discount assistance from Stellantis corporate.

Is it possible to expand on "blown engine"? Is that pistons hanging out of the block, valves bent 90 degrees? Or is it something more subtle?

I can’t really say if the new engine will be more reliable or not. The guys at the dealership said it’s the updated engine but when I asked them what all changed they couldn’t tell me. I only put about 5k miles on since the replacement because I have another truck to drive and honestly just don’t really trust it anymore.

Unfortunately these eco diesels blow up all the time its the one ram I never recommend I see them constantly on facebook for sale with blown engines for like 6-7k always in nice shape body wise. The engines blow up so much they are over priced and not worth fixing in many cases. However I have no idea why they blow up all the time hopefully someone on here has that awnser would like to know.

Mine developed a real bad knock and started pouring oil from the front and rear main seal. I didn’t get to actually see the inside of the engine because the dealership wanted the engine for a core.

Honestly while it has a good engine try to sell it and get out of it if ya cant just keep it/keep a eye on things change the oil often ect.

Motors are built in Italy. QC is not great and the crank journals are too narrow resulting in crank flex under high torque low rpm’s. When the crankshaft flexes it rips the crank bearings and boom. Life sucks. I traded a 2016 hemi for a 2016 eco diesel a few years ago primarily due to better fuel economy. Granted I had no problems with my eco I traded back to a 2016 hemi due to the high eco diesel failure rates. I replaced the intake manifold at 55k miles on the eco due to being filled with soot. I’ll look for a picture and post it up shortly. I was shocked at how much soot had collected. The eco diesel drove like a Cadillac, provided great fuel mileage and had great low end torque for towing. After reading about so many crank failures, EGR coolant leaks, fires and fuel pump issues I had to convince the wife I didn’t do my due diligence in researching the eco and wanted back in a 1500 with the Hemi. it was a tough sell since she was not on board with the original trade but all is good now . Love my high mileage no tick hemi.
