Just picked up my new ram 3 weeks ago. having an issue turning off the headlights while the truck is running. I get into the train station lot early, leave the truck running for heat. I turn the headlight *** to off, full left position. Lights do not go out. Of course if I shut the truck off lights go out. Why cant I shut the headlights off while I'm sitting there with the engine running?

Is it the headlights or the DRL's that are on? You can try going into the settings menu to adjust delay.

I’m not a 5th gen owner but IIRC there’s a DRL setting via Uconnect that you can disable, otherwise your headlights will remain on in low mode for DRL regardless of what you do with the headlight control itself. It’s also worth mentioning AFAIK you cannot disable the LED string lights no matter what.

I know its not the DRL, as I move the *** from auto to full left back to auto full right, the lights are on. I see no difference outside. Its the headlights.

NOT sure what trim level U have, here is how it is on MY 19 Bighorn.

Go into the U-Connect setting and check for DRL's. It is probably for headlights. Go ahead and set to off.
Now go ahead and with truck running, check your lights. You will go out and still see that
the Outer Rim "I would call them parking lights)_ are still on. Those at least on my truck cannot be turned off. And when your lights knob is set to off, the
outer rim lights are actually brighter than if U were to turn the headlight switch to parking lights.

I went to the Dealer and Tried to get turned off, and they said they cannot turn them off, because it is in the ECM (or BCM) not remember which and FCA does not
GIVE them access with their tools.

I have heard that U can change the DRL's and settings (maybe turn this outer ring off), though not sure with AlphaOBD. I do not know if the ECM's for the MY 19 have been cracked.

I believe what U R seeing is what I described above. (BEST I CAN DO)

ADDED: U might want to put which truck/trim level U have in the RAM Year info for your Avatar

ALL the above IMHO, and is HOW MY 19 (Bighorn) is

So got off the train to try the suggestions. Started the truck with light *** set to auto. Headlights now on. Turned *** to full left. Lights still On. Set emergency brake. Headlights turned off. I normally don't use the emergency brake on level ground in the parking lot, so looks like the issue is solved. Emergency brake MUST be set to turn off headlights while vehicle is running.
Thanks Guys...

Glad you found this out. Mine is the same way, Apply the emergency brake and the DRL's go out while in park.

U should be able to go into EVIC and turn off DRL. Like I said, my DRL on MY 19 is headlights which are set to off and stay off, but the parking lights (front) always stay on, IMHO wat a PITA, stupid programming...

ADDED; Just fer chits and giggles, figure go out there and put on E brake and see if the parking lights (though not my drl's per evic)< go out. AND guess what, they still stay on, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yes the DRL are set on by default in the settings. You have to go in and turn them off. I don't have the LED lights so it's basically like having your headlights on all the time and I didn't want that.

LED's different. They R off by default, my DRL's R headlights, which I have turned off, and THEY R off. But dangit, the front parking lights, which R NOT in the DRL setup, stay on all the time, regardless, and Dealer related cannot change. Since I do not have AlphaOBD and have not heard of ne one cracking the ECM on the 19 5th Gens yet, guess I am stuck, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..

If ne one in Central TX has alphaOBD, and cracked the 19 ECM's and can turn off, PM please, lol
