Hi,
I am looking at a new 2500 this year (gas) and I am wondering whether the 3.73 or 4.10 is best for me. I tow an 8000 lb (loaded) camper in the summer as well as a 3000 lb boat. I am thinking the 3.73 is all I need, but if there is not much difference in gas mileage, then maybe the 4.10 is best - then I can get a heavier travel trailer potentially. I will use the truck as a daily driver the rest of the time. My commute to work is pretty short, so I am wondering if the 4.10 is worth the extra gas.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Andrew

I tow a just under 7,000lb Jayco with 3.73 an it does good. I drive 74 miles a day for work an the mileage ain't bad. I even drag the camper off road to hunt camp an not much problem when the clay is wet.
I live in N W. Ga an its hilly but if your drivin mountains you "might" want the lower gear.

I don't think the difference will be very noticeable from either a MPG or performance standpoint. I sure wish I had the 4.10s (or more like 4.56s) on my 2014 but your newer 8spd tranny is a HUGE (let me repeat that, HUGE) difference. In your situation if I could choose I'd probably go for the 4.10s but if the right truck came along with 3.73s I wouldn't hesitate.

I started out with 4:10's in my trucks. Then I bought one with 3:73.
After that one, I am back to 4:10's.

I have a 2021 2500 Big Horn Level 2 crew cab off-road with 4:10s. I avg about 13mpg normal everday driving. I tow a 32ft travel trailer so I opted for 4:10s...for what I use my truck for 4:10s made sense. Plus as others stated and I would have to agree the mpg is probably unnoticeable. Let's face it....ppl do not buy heavy duties IMO and really expect to get great mpg

I went with 3.73’s. I tow infrequently but found this ratio to be favorable for my use case of driving to (tent) camp sites.

Having owned both, do not hesitate, get the 4.10's

The RPM difference between 3.73 and 4.10's at 70mph is about 175. Miniscule mpg difference one way or the other. I went 4.10 myself when I ordered mine and she does a nice job of towing a 10-12k dump trailer

I had a 2019 2500 with the 4.10. I was certain I wanted 4.10 going in after having 2 Ford 6.2's, one with 3.73 the next with 4.30. The 4.30 was well worth it in the ford with their 6 speed. But after driving the Ram 8spd and 4.10, I felt for my driving and needs it was lower than I needed. 1st gear with the stock tires was so low. If I order a new Ram, it will have the 3.73. Most of my driving is unloaded around town, and when I tow it is 10k and under.

You also have to consider what tranny you are using... with the 8 speed I would go with 3.73... 6 speed then 4.10...

I have a 2020 Tradesman with the 6.4 and 4:10’s. Getting 14.5 around town and 17 at 80. The 8 speed tranny is awesome. It is a beast.

I hate driving a 4.10 the 3.73 just feels better everyday driving and can handle your trailer. I notice it because I drive them all the time different ones. Some people prefer it. It’s definitely more heavy duty. Ide suggest driving one of each. Other than that either can handle it.
